Stats only tell part of the story, but I like to look at them to get an idea of what they can do and to backup what you see with your eyes. Here's a list of big men in the draft with per 40 stats. Based on stats, who looks the best? I'll put names in spoilers to try and avoid bias. Stats go Points/Rebounds/Assists/Steals/Blocks/FG%/3Pt%/FT%

Player A 20.2/9.6/2.0/1.0/2.2 shooting .522/.300/730 21.6 years old

Player B 16.2/14.4/2.2/1.2/3.9 shooting .632/.000/.471 20.4 years old

Player C 20.0/10.6/2.0/1.1/5.5 shooting .513/.396/.797 18.4 years old

Player D 17.1/14.0/.7/1.0/4.8 shooting .541/.275/.681 19.8 years old

Player E 23.6/14.4/0.7/0.6/2.5 shooting .545/.333/.725 19.7 years old

Player F 20.2/13.5/3.0/1.2/3.1 shooting .561/.413/.738 18.9 years old

Player G 16.1/11.1/3.7/1.4/2.7 shooting .437/.364/.750 18.3 years old

Player H 17.8/12.5/1.8/2.1/2.4 shooting .545/.263/.640 21.0 years old

Player I 25.7/12.6/0.5/1.8/6.0 shooting .600/.280/.590 *HS stats 19.9 years old

Player J 24.0/13.8/1.9/0.7/2.3 shooting .612/.343/.733 19.6 years old

Player K 24.9/13.1/1.8/1.0/1.0 shooting .614/.397/.627 18.9 years old

Player L 21.2/10.3/1.2/1.4/0.7 shooting .528/.394/.694 20.9 years old

Well, me, obviously. But for the sake of conversation, I'll take Player F.

Haha, I'm a big fan of Player F aka Wendell Carter. I'm hoping we're high enough in the draft that we don't take him, but he's one of my prime move up and draft candidates if he falls.

Two guys that are interesting to me:

Player E and Player H. AKA Brandon McCoy and Ray Spalding. I know nothing about them, but their numbers are impressive. Anyone have any insight? I'll have to look more into them.

I watched a lot of UNLV games this year and I really like McCoy. I'm surprised that the latest SI mock draft has him going in the low second round. To me, he's a great consolation to any team that misses out on Ayton. If you can find the Arizona/UNLV game from early this season (that UNLV lost in OT), Ayton had a great game, but McCoy went toe-to-toe with him and arguably had the better all around game. But say we end up picking Docic with our first pick. I would love to grab McCoy with our 2nd-rounder if he's still there. I have a feeling though that McCoy is going to rise to a first round selection once teams really have a chance to look at him.

There was a lot of talk early in the season of McCoy going in the mid 1st, but scouts cooled on him as the season went on.

I have seen McCoy play multiple times. Has some toughness issues. Is a little too mechanical. Often is slow to react and execute his moves. He got his numbers against less than stellar comp.

Yes, but it is her goofiness that seals the deal for me. Listen to hear laugh. It is so beyond dorky it is adorable. Alas, she is married and I'm ... me.

Thanks for posting. She can really write.

Doncic is my guy in this draft.

He's really Amare-ish, for better or worse.

There is like one good move in that whole clip. The rest just looks like an adult playing against kids.

It just feels risky.

Can you imagine what Amare would have done in the college game? Actually he probably would have just hurt himself jumping over all the kids. :)

I didn't know Anton already had a nickname. The Adonis from the Bahamas.

Amar'e didn't have that jumper early in his career. His touch is maybe the most impressive skill. Not unlike David Robinson or that Pat Ewing baseline jumper. I'm less impressed by the dunking highlights. Everyone looks great in those clips. If we don't address the PG position, will he struggle to get those easy looks? Can he play in the post and be a go-to scorer? Will Booker and JJ be able to play PnR with him?

I'm still leaning toward Doncic but wouldn't be disappointed by Ayton. If the Grizz get the 1 pick, they're going Doncic or Bagley, most likely Doncic.

Doncic is everything Bender isn't mentally. The Suns are desperate for another guy like him who has floor maturity at a young age. I think they really could be just a piece away from pushing for the playoffs with Doncic.
