Doncic won't be enough tho. We'd still need a monster up front.
I'm not sure who qualifies as a monster, but I think someone in the Taj Gibson mold would be enough to get us in the playoff discussion when the season starts. A Chandler for Robin Lopez swap seems to be a pretty good idea to me in that scenario.ShelC wrote:Doncic won't be enough tho. We'd still need a monster up front.
If we win the Doncic lottery, we still have another mid-first rounder or two that might help solidify the middle. But if we have to wait another year to address that need, it’s not the end of the world. Patience is important when you're climbing your way up from #30. Even if it is the eighth straight year out of the playoffs.Flagrant Fowl wrote:I'm not sure who qualifies as a monster, but I think someone in the Taj Gibson mold would be enough to get us in the playoff discussion when the season starts. I have been advocating for taking a chance on Mitchell Robinson with the Miami pick. He would be a good choice to mentor under Chandler for a year, and try to fill the center spot with a starting caliber rim protector, rim runner and rebounder in free agency and a stretch 4 in a trade. This will move Chriss and Bender to the bench or off in such a trade, while giving them time to mature physically and work on their games.Cap wrote:If we win the Doncic lottery, we still have another mid-first rounder or two that might help solidify the middle. I don't think DAJ is worth the money he'll probably get from another team. He's a very good player, yet he's not enough of a difference maker to me for his price. The Suns definitely need a mature big man, but I'd rather wait for the young talent to mature together a bit more before locking into a huge long term contract. I would make an exception for Cousins and that's about it.ShelC wrote:If we take Doncic, you gotta use some combo of Chandler and our later picks for DeAndre Jordan (I know some don't like him), or move to the 6-7 spot to take Wendell Carter. I don't know if Carter's a "monster" but he's a young big who seems ready to play and do the things we need.
Taj Gibson's terrible. Lopez isn't athletic enough and won't move the needle. And if we can make a play for DAJ, we bring in the veteran and show we're serious about winning. Whether we win or not is another matter.
I'm with ShelC on this one. If Doncic is the pick, I go all out for DAJ. He will make the most difference on the backside of the defense. He can actually move, as opposed to Chandler nowadays. Cousins wouldn't provide that type of a difference on defense.Flagrant Fowl wrote:I don't think DAJ is worth the money he'll probably get from another team. The qualities I like most about guys like Gibson and Lopez are their durability and professionalism. They're going to do the little things that won't take away from Booker, Jackson and Doncic. I'm basically looking for the poor man's Al Horford. The last thing I want on this team is an overpaid guy on the wrong side of his peak who still thinks he's as good as he was 3 years ago.
L'ville fan here. Montrezl is still that high energy guy from college and his efficiency been great. His motor though not translating to rebounds , I can't quote numbers but I know just from peeping his stats throughout the season he has may 12-15pt and 5reb games. That might be minutes related too but for sure we need guys who compete and he's always been thatcarey wrote:I'm not sure I can see DAJ in purple. The guy from the Clippers I'd go after is Montrezl Harrell. He's a FA for some reason this Summer. I guess the Clippers didn't pick up his 4th year after he was traded. Anyway, I wanted the Suns to draft him in '14 but he went back to school and didn't come out until the following year. I still like his game but he is not a C. He's more of a Manimal type of big man and I think we need one of those.
He only averages 16 min a game, if you double his averages to 32 min per game he'd be 20 & 8 which isn't too bad. I don't expect him to join the Suns and be handed 32 min a game but I would rather him coming off the bench than Chriss at PF. I do hope this Chriss as C experiment is over (one way or another.)bajanguy008 wrote: L'ville fan here. Montrezl is still that high energy guy from college and his efficiency been great. Harrell has been very good every time I've seen him. I think he would be very solid on a reasonable deal.ShelC wrote:I thought he'd be more of a manimal type and loved him coming out of college. His rebounding hasn't been as good as I'd hoped and he's shooting 3s. Hope he hasn't gone soft. I'd take him but he's a backup 4/5, borderline starting PF.
This should not be a reason we avoid acquiring someone. They are not nearly important enough.ShelC wrote:I'd take him on a good deal just for his energy and activity level. But then what of Chriss and Bender?
