You're doing noble work, carey. Each of us has a finite amount of time on this earth, and all we can do during that time is to try to make a positive impact. There isn't much you could possibly do to have more impact in your lifetime than working as a teacher. (I may be biased as a former educator myself, but dangit, it's the truth.) Thanks for everything you do. Let us know if you need any more supplies!

That’s terrible. Does the school at least pay decently?
Kryptonic wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 6:32 pm
Highly doubt it…. It’s education.
Correct. I would make a whole lot more if I moved to Texas but I hate Texas. I may explore moving when my youngest goes to college in two years.

California teachers are essentially bulletproof and most of them make 100k. But also, California lol.

California’s the place you ought to be, so they loaded up the truck and they moved to Beverley.

Yep, my ex, as a California teacher, is making more than I'm pulling in from my IRA and yet I'm still paying her alimony 16 years after our 14 year marriage ended. But I'm not bitter about it or anything.

I've got 2 friends in the field and their salary has almost doubled over the last 5 years, it's insane.

Really?! I wasn't aware of a large salary increase in the last five years. I'm pretty sure she was making 100k five years ago. She had her masters so that helped. I wonder if there is any way for me to figure out her current salary. Maybe I could start earlier than later on trying to end this damn, seemingly eternal, alimony. Last time I talked to a lawyer they said my best chance was when she retires since I retired on the early side.
ETA: Just found a website called Transparent California and it says she was making a little over 100k (plus benefits) in 2021.
Now I found 2023. Bump it up another 20k! Hmm...

Chris Rocks OJ bit comes to mind when I read about guys getting screwed over alimony lol. I had no idea it was possible to collect alimony that long. I thought it was half the time you were married for or maybe it varies from state to state?

In California, that's true only if married less than 10 years. Otherwise, it's for life (unless the spouse remarries or by further order of the court.)
I will have to check out the Chris Rock bit. That's now two Rock bits I need to check out.

Nice! Not too far off now. I'm all set now in Phoenix! Got my OTA working with a DVR and will now be able to watch pregame and postgame shows!
A friend has relatives in town from France in October and we're going to go to the Lakers/Suns preseason game on October 17th.

I'm already out of paper! I put some up on the wishlist in case anyone feels like donating some paper to class. Paper is getting mad expensive, hell everything is expensive. I can't wait to work for a district that at least buys paper for their teachers! Lol.

Meh for me…I just wish we’d use the 90’s purple sunburst and the black Valley ones every year…then rotate whatever else through that you want.
