Re: Suns News: Week 2 12/28-1/3
Meant to post this yesterday, a throwback to those early 2000s "malaise" teams that won 50 games and lost in the 1st round every year. Just a few weeks later we'd get the Kidd/french fry incident that would effectively end the Kidd era. These were the teams I watched growing up tho, knowing we were good but not good enough to make any real noise against the likes of the Lakers, Kings, Blazers, Spurs. Delk and Rodney Rogers were two of the better FA signings we made IMO, just not enough to make the difference we needed.

A few of those pixels looked a little like Rodney Rogers, Cliff Robinson, and Tom Gugliotta. Reminded me of going to Suns.com to watch highlights after games and trying to determine what players I was actually looking at.ShelC wrote: ↑Sun Jan 03, 2021 6:33 amMeant to post this yesterday, a throwback to those early 2000s "malaise" teams that won 50 games and lost in the 1st round every year. I actually liked those teams a lot. I know we didn't come close to the title, but it felt like we always worked hard and had a lot of guys I liked cheering for. Kidd, Cliffy, Rex Chapman, Rodney Rogers, McDyess, Googs, ... depending on whether you choose the early or late part of that era, you start to get some Shawn Marion in there. We bottomed out in around 02-03 but I enjoyed the team during most of that whole stretch.ShelC wrote: ↑Sun Jan 03, 2021 6:33 amMeant to post this yesterday, a throwback to those early 2000s "malaise" teams that won 50 games and lost in the 1st round every year. Those Kidd teams would have been much better if McDyess didn't bail for Denver and Penny would have been healthy. I think they would have stood a chance at becoming something.

I think Scrimmage Bridges showed more scoring ability. Bridges has shown some off the bounce expansion of his game, but he primarily (and finally) living up to the "3" in "3&D."Indy wrote: ↑Sat Jan 02, 2021 10:23 pmThat is crazy. (and I would say we are getting scrimmage bridges)INFORMER wrote: ↑Sat Jan 02, 2021 10:21 pmSo far none of these things has happened (Bridges is close though) and the Suns are tied for the best record in the league.

Oh...you had to remind me of that guy...

Losing McDyess set us back and we never recovered. We ended up with Cliff, Googs and Longley and some other journeymen along the way. But we couldn't match up with the bigger, stronger, more athletic frontcourts at the time. Our guys tried and played hard and those teams usually overachieved, plus you knew the FO/ownership was always trying to get better.
Re: Suns News: Week 2 12/28-1/3
Yeah, at least we had a FO/ownership that was always trying to get better.

The whole McDyess thing really sucked!
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

isn't that where the Rich Paul hate started? Or was there someone else that coaxed him out?
Re: Suns News: Week 2 12/28-1/3
With McDyess? No, Rich Paul was a nobody at that time probably in HS.

Googs was great... and then he got injured.
