I don't like it for the Lakers, unless they feel that Klay is better than anything they can draft. But even if that was the case, you need to factor Klay's impending contract. If they really want him they should wait until next summer and make a max like offer.

That doesn't always work....I mean we really want Love. We can just make him a max offer in 2015 and get him right?

Yeah, Suns-Love is completely different. If the Lakers send the Warriors a max offer sheet I don't see them matching. They have a ton of salary commited. Bogut, Iggy, Curry and Lee make more than 50M combined. Klay at the max would be a nightmare for them, for starters because he is far from worth it. But if you are the Lakers and really love Klay, your franchise is better off keeping the pick and making that offer. They are not winning anything in 14-15 so waiting one year doesn't make a difference. And if Klay doesn't sign an extension and hits RFA, LAL is probably the top destination anyway.

It isn't completely different. Also, David Lee is expiring in '15-'16 so really it'd be one year of nutso salaries. I think Klay is worth the max for GS, possibly not for other team, but having one of the best catch & shoot guys in the NBA on that offense is perfect.
Re: the bold part, well neither are we.... not so different.

I think those are two very different scenarios. Love will be an UFA. Klay is restricted. The Suns are not a top destination, the Lakers are the most interesting franchise in the league. Almost by definition having cap space means they can get the guy they covet. If that guy is Klay Thompson and he hits the market, I have little doubts that they'll get him to sign an offer sheet.
And regarding the bold part, we may not be winning the title, but we'll compete for a playoff spot with a pretty solid roster, while the Lakers have basically nothing beyond the pick, cap space and an unknown in Kobe.
My point is that waiting one year to make their move won't interfere with anything and will allow them to keep their precious asset. And if in the end they can't get Klay, they'll still have room to pursue other targets, all while enjoying four years of cheap production/hope from the dratee. In my opinion Klay is not a guy you give up the #7 for. Love and others like maybe Rondo, I would pull the trigger if it came down to it, but not in this particular case.

The Chicago Bulls are pursuing a trade for Orlando Magic swingman Arron Afflalo, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Makes perfect sense for them. Afflalo is another elite catch and shooter who also can create for himself and plays solid defense. At some point he got overrated but he's still a hell of a player. Orlando can afford to keep him around even if they are rebuilding, but probably the best option is turning him into future assets. I am very curious to find out what he can net them in a trade.

Sorry - got to address this.
Exactly what makes the Lakers "the most interesting franchise in the league" - the fact that, even with Klay Thompson, they'd have the worst roster in the west?
Also, carey - just because we may not be winning a championship in 2015 sure as hell doesn't mean we're in the same place as said Lakers.....

Honestly, it's the Lakers & it's way too early to heap dirt on them this off season. I may not call them "the most interesting franchise" or whatever, but i do believe the whole "Lakers mystique" thing or more importantly I believe other
players believe that.

As arrogant & smug as those fucks have been to us over the years (not to mention all the fucking idiot southern California transplants flooding every Suns/Lakers game since the 1990's), I'll heap as much shit on them as I please - damn fucking straight I'm gonna kick 'em while they're down.
West is long gone, Bryant's done and Nash is doing his job of sabotage by-way of infiltration - only "mystique" left is Nicholson in the front row. Remember, the Celtics had "mystique" once upon a time, too.
Brings to mind an interview with Bill Russell I saw years ago, talking about "Celtics Tradition" - he said something along the lines of "Shoot, there WAS no 'Celtics Tradition' before I got there!"
The Lakers are way past due for a lean stretch and I'll be kicking those fucks every step of the way.....

Amick says the Rox already have deals in place to move Lin and Asik to free up space for Melo or LBJ.
Why would anyone trade for Lin?

Look, I am a Suns fan, but I can't ignore the fact that the Lakers are the Real Madrid/Manchester United of the NBA. Ask any NBA fan, any place in the world. Beyond one's affinity with one particular team, the Lakers are the most iconic team in this business.
And by the way, this is not the first time in the moder era that the Lakers are in a rough position. They also sucked in the mid 90s. And do you remember how they got out of it? They signed Shaquille O'Neal in free agency.
Face it. They are the royalty of the NBA. There are others, like the Celtics due to their history, and the Knicks because of their money. And there is aristocrazy, like the Bulls or Rockets, maybe even the Suns as the 5th most winning franchise despite not having a title. And there is always the new rich, but it is what it is.

Without a pick attached to him, I don't know. Unless it is the Knicks. But they don't have the room to take him without sending out other contracts unless a third team was involved. But they don't have the assets to pay for it.

Obviously, the Suns have a better offer on the table now for Love. <wishful thinking>
