I appreciate that Ishbia may be aggressive to get into the draft, but did James Jones suddenly change his philosophy on rookies? Or is our roster reality forcing his hand?
Not sure how much power Jones has left.

Gonna need rookies to fill out the roster for cheap and not go over the hard cap.

If Ishbia feels the need to overrule Jones on every decision then what is the point of his role? Wouldn't he be better off firing him? Likewise if Jones felt like he was being marginalised when it came to making decisions wouldn't he just resign and look for employment elsewhere? I'm sure there are plenty of organisations that would be willing to hire him.
You have to think the truth lies somewhere inbetween. He wanted to make the Durant trade, maybe gave up a little more than he'd have liked to due to Ishbia and is now having to alter his philosophy to fill out the roster on the cheap.

Maybe Jones is in survival mode, just agreeing until he's shown the door? I guess we'll know more in the coming weeks.

Isn't there a rumor that the Suns are bringing back a GLeague team, now that Ishbia is the owner? Seems like developing talent is a way that the Suns could win on the margins, that they weren't doing very well prior. Plus, it's incredibly short sighted to not have rookies, cheap contracts and possibly players to develop, even for future trades or if you find a diamond in the rough and do things right.

Yes. It's probably not going to be next year, though. Likely '24-25.

Herb Jones was better in college than Jordan Walsh.
Fantastic college player and he could very well tear up the league someday. It just won't be the NBA.

I am leery of players whose names are misspelled variants of "Marcus."

I feel pretty confident the Suns are going to have at least one rookie going into training camp. Hopefully the recently hired people can find an early contributor like the Nuggets did with Christian Braun.

I’ve become a big fan of this guy the past few days.

Good eye. He looks a little raw in some points, but some of the things that are important in a center/big man, he looks very good at. Some of the things that drive us nuts about Ayton, this guy seems to do naturally, but it's a highlight reel. He's young though, and some of the skills can be worked on and improved with reps.

He's definitely a project big and the NBA game will be way too fast for him now, but his movement leads me to believe there's a lot in his toolbox. His footwork is very promising at his size, and his patience to explode off of two feet around the rim indicates a keen sense of timing.
He almost certainly wouldn't help the Suns next season, but with the proper development and mentality (completely unknown), he could be a tremendous value pick in a few seasons.

I really hope we spend our 6 million allotted to buy a draft pick this year. Should get us an early 2nd or even late 1st. Honestly we should just do that every year since we traded away half our picks.
