Nope, we’re not getting him.
You have to think older guys who have already made their money, guys coming back off injury , or scrubs looking for a second/last chance
Donte D
Carter
Brooks
None of these guys fit any of those

I'd like to bring in Dennis Smith Jr., but I sense that he's looking for more security than what the Suns could offer since he was out of the league for a bit.

Sure, if Carter can find more money he’ll take that, but I’m not positive he will. I agree on Donte, there’s zero chance he comes here.

This is more interesting to me in that Bazley was not given one.

I kind of liked what Lee brought. Smaller, quicker, shifty guard who could get into the lane. I wouldn't want to have to rely on him for a major role but as a 13-15th guy we could do worse. I still think we need another legit backup PG/ballhandler. Not sure I feel comfortable with Payne as the only true PG on the roster as of now.
Jock's a no brainer. Hope we can re-sign him to a reasonable deal.

Agreed. I liked Saben Lee so long as he didn't shoot much. He seemed to control the offense well and was good at going to the basket. Jock was at times our best center; got to bring him back.

I like the idea of Dennis Smith too. Has some upside and seems to have improved as a player last year.

I feel like Jordan Goodwin is as much of a PG as Payne.

Even Bazley’s QO is huge, but I liked the idea of signing him as a possible trade chip. It’s also possible that it’s still happening.

Payne's started at point and played for us and has playoff experience. I wouldn't want to trust a 23 yr old combo guard with that kind of responsibility. We know Book, Beal and KD will be sharing ballhandling duties, but we still need a true ballhandler with some actual experience to run things at times and/or lead a 2nd unit.

I really hope that we give Bazley a real look. I thought he showed some flashes in very limited time.

Doesn’t seem like we will, if we don’t give him the QO we lose his bird rights and his restricted status.

No, we'll still have his bird rights. He just won't be restricted.

You sure? That’s what I thought but Dave King is saying we wouldn’t(not that King is an expert)

I just meant he’s as much of a “true PG/distributor” as Payne, if not more. Not talking about his reliability. Payne is pretty damn unreliable.

I believe we still retain Bird rights since he was with his original team for 3 years (sticks with a player even when he gets traded). We just cannot match any offer and it limits us in what we can offer him as with Bird rights its a certain percentage increase from year prior.

No, with full bird rights you can sign him to a $34M max contract. But yeah you have to formally renounce the rights (usually done to get rid of cap holds) in order to lose the bird rights.
Perhaps they want to wait and see if they want to keep him and don't want to be stuck with him by extending the $6M QO.

Not sure how much stock to put into these reports. I am concerned about becoming Nets-lite, but maybe the Nets had a decent roster had their Big 3 worked out. Mike James seems like too much of a chucker tho from what we've seen of him.

Mike James isn't even playing well in Europe.
