Couple of Lakers bits;

1) Byron scott said after their first pre-season game that he was glad the team only shot 10 3 pointers and that if they shoot 10-15 threes a game that meant there was a good mix of inside-outside game.

Twitter blew up pointing out that shooting between 10-15 threes a game would have put them dead last according to last years stats.

In their second game, the Lakers got blew out by GSW and shot 1-11 from three.

2) Kobe doesnt look that good to me. Actually reminds me of post surgery Penny (before the microfracture...think 99-2000). The IQ is still there but he has zero explosiveness.

This is one of the most ridiculous stories I've ever read:

DALLAS -- Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle apologized to Chandler Parsons for publicly criticizing the team's prized, free-agent addition's weight and conditioning after Friday night's preseason game.

"It was unfair and inappropriate to single out Chandler Parsons after the game Friday night," Carlisle wrote in a statement issued Sunday afternoon. "I have apologized to him and the entire team for this error in judgment. Not only is Chandler Parsons one of our best players, he is also one of our hardest working players and the kind of high-character person we strive to bring to our city and franchise.

"I also made it clear to our players and staff this morning that this type of bad example is not acceptable and beneath the dignity of a championship organization like the Dallas Mavericks."

Here are the comments he's apologizing for:

"Parsons looked tired out there," Carlisle said. "His shot was short. He's working on losing some weight. He's a little heavier than he's been. He's up over 230 and we'd like to see him get down to at least 225. That's a work in progress. Tonight was one of those nights where I think the extra weight was a hindrance.

"He's gotten stronger, but he's been playing at 215 his first three years. An increase of 18-to-20 pounds is just too much. And we talk about it a lot. He'll get there. But he looked tired and a little heavy-legged. And the extra seven or eight pounds aren't helping.

"I don't mean to call him out publicly. It's just a fact. He's an important guy for us. We need him to get the right conditioning because we're going to need him to play a lot of minutes over the course of 82 games."

In my opinion, this has Cuban written all over it. He got butt-hurt because Carlisle dared to something remotely unfavorable about Cuban's prized, silly overpay.

It's a pretty benign situation: Parsons intentionally bulked up in the offseason, Carlisle thinks he overdid it and thinks it's affecting his play. I don't see anything incendiary, controversial, or unprofessional about his comments.

I agree with Info here. This happens in the NFL all the time and no one bats an eyelash. if you can't pass the conditioning test for your team during training camp you don't even get to play. I know the NFL is a different beast and can cut players for sucking, but I see no problem with saying, "X came in Y lbs overweight and we'd like him back down where he is more effective." Big whoop. This is a non-story that's been made worse with all the back & forth sniping between Morey and Cuban over the past month.

I don't even understand Scott's philosophy. It's one thing to mandate inside scoring when you have a dominant big, but the Lakers have Boozer? and no one else down there. It's as if Scott is taking away the 3 simply because he doesn't like that style, not because it is what is best for the team.

Going to a 2 only system, without a dominant post, in a 3-point shooting league, is a recipe for disaster.

Scott is in the same category as Mike Brown. Has a very high opinion of himself, rode coattails to success and now comes off like he's some of visionary/basketball genius. You play to your strengths, whether it's the 3 ball, inside scoring, playing uptempo, relying on defense, etc. If you look at your roster and go "hey, we don't have a lot of outside shooters so let's work on getting some shots closer to the basket", that's one thing. But to say, "I don't want to see us shooting more the x amount of 3s a game" is just dumb.

I think that is pretty shallow journalism to try to use Gary Neal's rape charge and Budenholzer's DUI against the organization when both took place when the each individual was not apart of the Spurs organization. And let's not act like Gary Neal was the face of the franchise either.

Poppovich is rude to reporters? Wow, you really are shedding the light on uncharted waters.

I really don't think there is a perception that the Spurs have infallible character. I think they're celebrated for their rare ability to stay at or near the top of the conference, their savvy front office moves, and their textbook style of play on the court.

Finally, I can't think of a single local media the TMZs their own team.
