I still enjoy going to the movie theater. Nothing like sharing a movie with a crowd while munching on buttered popcorn and a coke icee.
Certain movies are definitely better viewed on a larger screen and with massive sound... At least now you can reserve your seats and not have to sit in a line for 90 minutes before the movie in hopes of scoring decent seats.

On the flip side I did invest into a somewhat decent home set up for bringing the theater experience as close to home as possible.. Now If I could just talk my wife into that 98" tv I see every time we walk into Costco lol
Cost ya the same as a couple of theater trips
LOL, I'll add that to my reasoning to the wife
I've got the wall space to pull it off, I just can't bring myself to do it lol

I just finished the book couple days ago. Fucking great still thinking about.

Can’t wait for the movie and it seems knocked it out the park.
I'm calling bs... we all know it was the audio book :P
Lmao wow smfh. Funny enough, I do want to listen to the audiobook, apparently it’s really good.

Got to see movie the in 70mm IMAX last Friday. It was fucking great. Must watch on the biggest screen near you.

I didn’t see many movies in theaters this year, but I did see Marty Supreme in one and it was my favorite movie of the year.

My 83 inch LG OLED is as big as I'll ever need with my viewing distance.

I've been the exact opposite, at least for the last few months. I have the ongoing subscription for one of the two big theater chains in my area, so I've been seeing every movie I'm even remotely interested in at the theater lately. I have my ticket for IMAX Project Hail Mary for Saturday already.

Granted, my kids have all been out on their own for some years, and my schedule is pretty open. It's easy for me to find a time and go see a random movie if I want to.

I am predisposed to be biased toward this movie.

My wife and I -finally- got around to watching Dune (part 1) the other day. This is the 2021 Chalamet version. I really liked it, but it definitely doesn't feel like a complete story. A bunch of interesting stuff happens, but the pace is a little slow; it takes around 2.5 hours. And then it just kind of stops in the middle of the tale and rolls credits. I know that part 2 is out, and I can just watch that to finish the story. But I was struck by how incomplete it felt. I would imagine that if I had seen this in the theater, without part 2 available to immediately watch, I might have found it frustrating not to get to watch the rest of the story.

FWIW I have also never seen the 1980s David Lynch version. I have read about half of the book but gave up partway through.

Yea they pulled a “fellowship of the ring” by ending it that way but it’s intended to be a trilogy… part 2 is fantastic, but also leaves you hanging. Part 3 ties it up.

I loved the 80’s version directors cut… but that one is even kind of left open ended at the end of that one. I’ve never read the books but read enough online to explain the depth of the dune universe. Evidently it goes far beyond Paul atrades.

Nearly finished with season 2 of The Leftovers on HBO. Definitely one of the weirdest, craziest and favorite shows my wife and I have watched in a long time. Highly recommend.

Hmm. May have to give it another go. I think I watched the first episode and it didn't grab me.

It took us about 3 episodes. Season 2 is some of the best seasons to any show I could compare that we've really liked. Dark vibes if you watched that series.

Loved that series! I will definitely revisit now. Thanks.

My wife and I watched all of The Leftovers. I wanted to like it but I really didn't end up enjoying it and would not recommend it. We finished the whole thing but a lot of that was because it was only 3 seasons and we wanted to see how it ended. But the story and plot and characters became so ridiculous and cheesy by the end that we hardly even cared by the end. I could go on and on about this show but suffice it to say it wasn't a fave for me.

Interesting. Haven't felt that way at all about it. Season 2 has been outstanding. Looking forward to the season finale tonight. I watch a lot of sci-fi so it's easy to try and believe in the supernatural at times. They've done a good job so far. I thought Yellowjackets was pretty unwatchable by the final season (didn't finish it) and felt like Silo was a slog fest to get through at times, for reference.

I just watched S1E1 last night. I'll report back on my thoughts as I get more into it. Hopefully, I at least fall somewhere in between Marty and AIG. I too watch a lot of sci-fi and am good at suspension of disbelief although
Spoiler: show/hide

Don't worry. Marty probably eats mayonnaise sandwiches and Starbucks. You'll probably really enjoy the series. Season 2 was somehow even better than the first.

Of course it's a matter of opinion, and if folks here like The Leftovers, that's great, enjoy. I personally didn't like it, but people like different things. I don't want to "yuck your yum" or say anybody is wrong for liking it. Fwiw, some of my thoughts on the series, trying not to spoil too much:
Spoiler: show/hide
