Why are churches tax-exempt if they hold partisan political rallies, again?

Sometimes they rent them out to political campaigns/organizations.

In 1954, Congress approved an amendment by Sen. Lyndon Johnson to prohibit 501(c)(3) organizations, which includes charities and churches, from engaging in any political campaign activity.

All these GOP rallies at churches and all these pastors out there without a doubt engaging in political activity. Ten Commandments in schools required by law? What about having some of your GOP leaders follow the Ten Commandments?

My point was that if they are renting out their building, they are not violating their 501(c)(3) status.

So as long as the political party is paying the church to have a political rally at their church and have it covered by the media as if it was just a rally at a church, then the church isn’t engaging in any political activity?

Pastors at various churches across the US are campaigning during actual church services.

I've left 2 churches because of this... It's appalling and not what the church is there for.

I commend you. I left the Boy Scouts because the leader had a passion for taking pictures of naked little boys. These people aren’t so good with right and wrong and it’s sort of their job to teach it.

Some Republicans decided to go out for a march in Tennessee this weekend.

When you have to cover your face so nobody can recognize you, you know you are an asshole.

I mostly agree with this. But I have seen some peaceful protesters protesting for reasonable things (like a cease fire in the Middle East) who wear masks because they don't want to be identified and doxxed by cyber bullies and real-life psychos. There are weirdos out there who will try to find out where you live, where you work, all about your family, etc. and sometimes anonymity is the only protection you have against major threat to your safety.

That said, fuck all these Nazis, identify and root out every single one.

It looks the GOP is releasing its 2024 party platform. (They conspicuously didn't have a platform in 2020, saying instead that whatever King Trump wants IS the platform.) Haven't done a deep-dive on it yet, but I'm sure it's delightful.

Banning abortion has hurt the GOP politically. Now they are softening their stance for the election at Trumps behest. After they win they can go back to their previous stance. It’s a proven effective way of politicking. Promise the world. Lie you ass off to get elected and then after the election do whatever the hell you really want.

They're just admitting it openly now. Surprised Hawley would say this; it isn't a popular position and doesn't help him or his party to say it out loud.

Trump doesn't know anything about Project 2025. But his GOP convention is hosted by the Heritage Foundation, the principal authors of it.
