@ShelC, you can't stomach Ishbia? I can understand Espo.
Hmm, ok. I don't get that feeling. Yeah, he's a fast talker but I do think he's genuine in wanting the best team possible. He's also admitted mistakes and that his big moves didn't work so I don't see the "think he knows everything" angle. But yeah, he is a salesman. That's his gig.
Come on now... His first move taking over was overruling the KD trade and caving to demands. I agree with Shel 100% that he comes off as a know it all and don't know how you can say that with a straight face looking at his MSU connections to this team. This doesn't mean I'm not hopeful for a turnaround but I'm also not blind to the crap that's gone on.Superbone wrote: ↑Sat Aug 16, 2025 8:54 amHmm, ok. I don't get that feeling. Now one thing that does concern me is when he says he was more hands off and things didn't work out so now he'll be more hands on. But we'll see. The new BG regime seems to be off to a good start. I like the moves so far. We'll see how Ott works out.
I'm not blind to any of it either, man. All salesmen come off as know it alls. It's easy to see his big swings were mistakes after the fact. But yeah, many of us saw that we gave up way too much to get KD. But go read the thread when it happened and what .net was saying at the time. The Beal trade on the other hand, almost everybody here thought it was a steal.Kryptonic wrote: ↑Sat Aug 16, 2025 9:21 amCome on now... https://arizonasports.com/dan-bickley/m ... o/3586057/Ishbia tells his staff that the Suns “will do things very differently than most other NBA franchises.” He says he will be “extremely active in the decisions and management of this organization, on and off the floor.” He says he’s “not the conventional NBA owner and I don’t want to be.” And for the kicker, he said he “tried running the typical NBA owner playbook – hiring experts, signing the checks and getting out of the way – and none of us were happy with the results.”
Welp, there's a lot of truth in that. We'll just have to see how the course correction goes. I appreciate you laying all that out there. Let's hope he can rise from your expectations otherwise we're all going to be a sad group for years to come. But I choose hope. That's just how I am.ShelC wrote: ↑Sat Aug 16, 2025 9:44 amhttps://arizonasports.com/dan-bickley/m ... o/3586057/Ishbia tells his staff that the Suns “will do things very differently than most other NBA franchises.” He says he will be “extremely active in the decisions and management of this organization, on and off the floor.” He says he’s “not the conventional NBA owner and I don’t want to be.” And for the kicker, he said he “tried running the typical NBA owner playbook – hiring experts, signing the checks and getting out of the way – and none of us were happy with the results.”
This is a guy who took over a team coming off a Finals appearance and one of the best stretches of basketball in franchise history. All he had to do was let Jones and his crew continue tweaking things and stay out of the way. He forced the KD trade the day he signed his ownership papers.
He's not the "conventional NBA owner" - how would he know? He's been an owner for 2 years. What experts did he hire in that time? The results he was unhappy with were due to the moves he and his own guys made. Every other owner/team is doing it wrong but he's going to do it right? And yea, why hire experts when you can hire MSU/Michigan cronies who are going to do your bidding?
I've long had this feeling about him, since he bought the team. I've kept quiet for the most part because he deserved a fair shot but all he's done is live down to my expectations.
Don’t ever change bone…. I know with mental health struggles of my own and prefer to be positive for mental health sake. I choose to be hopeful but not ignorant to the past, and not to fixate on the negative.Superbone wrote: ↑Sat Aug 16, 2025 11:28 amWelp, there's a lot of truth in that. Here’s the money quote from Sam Vencenie: “Khaman Maluach this year is like a really good example. Khaman Maluach does some things on the court that kind of drive you crazy. And you can just see from the way that he rebounds the basketball, his natural feel isn’t quite there yet. But Khaman Maluach is a kid that is an awesome human being, and anybody that you talk to says, very intelligent, understands where—very self-aware, understands his shortcomings, and will work at it. But is he going to be able to make up that gap in terms of that deficiency? I don’t know. It’s on him to figure that out.”
As excited as we are for all of Duke’s draft picks, Maluach is special. And like the Phoenix franchise, their fans and city, we hope he crushes it with the Suns.
