A look at some restricted free agents
https://twitter.com/esidery/status/995672607625105408 The pg's are interesting. I don't think van vleet will be available, but smart and exum might. I love them both as defensive options next to Booker, smart especially as he's one of the best defenders in the league. Neither can shoot at this point though. I'd feel a lot better about them if we land a shooter or two in the draft/FA to to our front court.

As for the bigs, I think I'd be pretty disappointed with Parker and Randle. Parker because he's just not that good and Randle because he can't shoot. I could talk myself into Randle though. I wouldn't love a Gordon signing but I'd be optimistic. I'd say the same about Capela, but I think it's highly unlikely Houston doesn't match anything there. At the very least, we'd have to pay the max and probably work a sign and trade to keep them from matching.

The more I think about it, the less I am interested in this RFA class. Capela is the only one that makes real sense for this roster, but the max on him is terrifying.

The rest is a question mark one way or another. Even Aaron Gordon, who remains a tweener and not in the good sense.

I'd look at Exum if he could be had at a reasonable price (he is a terror on defense and has more potential than Smart on offense), but as a RFA that's probably not an option.

Jabari and Randle, I'd rather take my chances in the draft.

Until these playoffs, I thought his name was Fred Van Fleet. When I learned his real name, I lost all interest in him. What kind of name is Van Vleet?! ;) I'd imagine Van Fleet was in the Navy while Van Vleet sounds like a family of goat herders.

It looks Dutch in origin, and they pronounce V the way we pronounce F. So in the original language it would sound something like “Fawn Fleet,” which is pretty cool.

Hmm. Thanks. Which leads me to believe that maybe some commentators were using the 'f' sound for Vleet which is why I thought it was Van Fleet in the first place. You and I seem to be the main pronunciation nerds here, Cap.

Van Vleet comes from Van Vliet, which is either from the Netherlands or Belgium.

I don’t think Toronto has the cap space to keep Van Vleet if he gets a decent offer.

They don't need cap space to retain him, but they may be in luxury tax range that might limit them

Thanks.

So, Dutch. And plugging it into my handy-dandy Google Translate app... sounds like the N is silent. More like “Faw Fleet” than “Fawn Fleet.”

Yep

I agree with all of that. I just do not see anyone that pops out other than Capella. Gordon scares me more than Capella.

I unfortunately see us wasting money again in free agency. That has been what this front office has done since Amare left town. Sarver will want to spin it as good editions but they again will overpay for some over the hill worthless free agent and then try to sell the fans on what a great move it was. (Chandler and Dudley)

I hope they prove me wrong.

I hope they only sign free agents to one year deals this off season. I would have no problem for an overpay for someone like JJ Redick. That will give Igor a chance to work with what we have and find out if some of these guys should be in our future, specifically Bender and Chriss. Next off season Chandler and Dudley come off the books, that is when I would really be agressive in free agency. Knight will also be entering the final year of his contract and could be a very valuable trade piece.

I think that we could be on the right track please do not sign anymore clones of Turkoglu, Warrick or Childress.
What was the reason to get rid of Monty again? Oh yeah, that guy we drafted rather than Doncic.

The dutch pronounciation would be "van" (like a van) "vleet". No f at all, and the n is not silent at all (much like "one"). It s mostly silent when it ends a word with a "e" before (verbs or plural)

Kokoskov, Van Vleet... Maybe we should add a "foreign pronounciation " folder like we did for politics

OK, so the same as an American would pronounce it on sight. Thanks, rhylek!

I wonder why the app is giving me the “Faw Fleet” pronunciation.

The app is far from perfect. When I use it it says something like "van vleetje".
I know some traduction app require to download a specific voice for a langage. Its more accurate.

And here’s a source that says “Fawn Fleet”: https://forvo.com/word/vincent_van_vliet/

And another: http://www.heardutchhere.net/dureq.html

Maybe that's because I'm used to Dutch, when listening to the first link, I hear a "v" ^^
That's really good dutch pronounciation btw (belgian accent is kind of softer)

The "Fleet" in the first is definitely a soft V & not an F. The Van is F tho.
Go Suns!

Hmm. When I play it through my iPad speaker, I hear v in Vincent but f in van and Vliet. When I play it through a better quality external speaker, I hear v, f and v.

What does everybody else hear?

The second link definitely sounds like f in both van and Vliet, regardless of which speaker I use (or which of the two recordings on the page).
