I consider withholding accountability under the notion of "we don't know what constraints he is working with" a free pass.

Who said anything about withholding accountability?

I did. And I think that is the appropriate term when things that happened under Jones time here, that have his finger prints on it, are excused with that line of thinking.

I mean, did Sarver mandate that Jones could only field a summer league team comprised of 30-year olds?!

But this is all probably getting into the weeds. Even if I am right, it doesn't mean Jones can't change. And if someone wants to hope for better results from him under Ishbia, there is nothing wrong with that. Personally, I think there has been enough missteps in the areas of drafting and player development to warrant not trusting Jones on those fronts.

See, I can agree with all that. The truth is we’ll never know. Like you said, he could change and make a course correction and there would be no way to know if he did that on his own or because he had less constraints to work around. Even if he did have constraints, there is a lot of room to argue that he didn’t handle them very well. I appreciated the conversation.

Jones was hired by Sarver, mostly because Sarver was cheap and Jones would take a paltry salary. He's done some good moves but I don't think he has particularly distinguished himself as a GM. The fact that Ishbia overrode Jones to force the KD trade tells me they don't really see things eye to eye. I think Ishbia should probably let Jones go when a better candidate becomes available.

I think you all have really good points. We don't know for sure if Ishbia "overrode" Jones, just that Ishbia was enthusiastic about the trade and was more willing to gamble more assets & players. Jones also seems to be the kind of person to not air someone else's dirty laundry. Time will tell for sure what really happened, what type of GM Jones really is and where exactly his strengths and weaknesses are. I'm hopeful that things will change as far as development staff & identifying talent goes with the known changes that have taken place already.

You should all be biting your tongue because we know damn well that Isaiah Thomas could easily be in James Jones' role right now.

Another project type guy I like with good athleticism and effort. Reminds me quite a bit of Okogie.

Jordan passing on Scoot would be very much like his previous roster management decisions.

That one has me baffled. It feels a little like Sacramento taking Bagley at 2 to me.

I think both of you are way off; nothing against Scoot, but Brandon Miller is an amazing basketball talent.

And Charlotte did draft LaMelo Ball on Jordan's watch.

A lot of guys are amazing talents who never put it together mentally.

I’m never going to worry about the mental part with Scoot and he’s also an amazing talent.

What sets Scoot apart from Miller mentally?

Would you take him over Scoot? I haven’t followed this draft super close, and I even like Miller….So maybe Bagley was a little much, but I just think Scoot will be better.

Amazing talent. Does he have what it takes to lead a winner? I have doubts.

Their approach to the game looks different to me. Scoot will bite an arm off to win but I don’t get that sense at all with Miller.

Reminds me of the Fox vs. Ball debate during their draft year.
