Word is they want to put Paul back on the roster - presumably, because the spacing with Favors/Gobert is awful.

Which is similar to what Utah's thinking. But I actually don't know if this is the case. I think Warren has a unique scoring skillset, such that we don't actually need to spread the floor as much as most teams (if we choose to utilize him more frequently). Favors and Len are both great rebounders, and Warren's shots, when they're off, are usually right on the rim. Knight and Booker (Knight and Carroll/Green, for a year) would be great perimeter threats, which would help some. Len/Favors would provide great interior D. I worry that this scheme would make us vulnerable in transition.
Every year, people want to emulate the strength of the champs. We gotta play to our own unique strengths. IMO, the one the sticks out is Warren's unique scoring ability.
Plus, Favors could play next to Kieff off the bench. We'd finally have a viable front court rotation. Eh. Something to think about.

Dave King tweeted 5/70 for Knight.

I sure hope the 2 pg lineup works, 140 million tied up in the two guard positions is a lot.

Ugh. The Bledsoe deal? Was hoping a little less but he had already turned down 4/50 so I guess that was the best hope.

While each of the Bledsoe/reported Knight deals is arguably ok in itself, that's too much tied up for those 2 players in those 2 spots. Mid/long-term we're going to have to trade one of them.

I'm glad they are getting it worked out early. Hopefully we get more of the Bucks Knight and less of last years Phoenix Knight.

Well, that takes us out of the running for a max level free agent. At least we won't have to waste the summer on Kevin Love rumors or whatever.

Nope. It doesn't. He'll wait till we strike out on the major free agents before he signs the deal. Cap hold is $8.9 Mil.
http://www.brightsideofthesun.com/2015/ ... -deal-they
Expect Knight NOT to sign until the Suns have already spent their cap space on free agents to improve the team. The Suns currently have just under $13 million to spend as long as Knight only counts $8.9 million as a "cap hold" on his Bird Rights.
The Suns can spend anything on the free agent market up their cap, and then exceed the cap in the re-signing of Knight to a larger annual contract than the $8.9 million cap hold.

Agreed. And I really hope the front office knows that.

Yep. Much, much better than what happened with Bledsoe last year.

You mean the near all-star guard in the East?

I'm pretty sure they do if any of the dangling Bledsoe rumors are true which I believe they are.

I'm not buying this "that's too much money tied up in 2 guards" business at all.
Given how the salary cap is going crazy soon, it is in the Suns' best interest to lock in good to decent talent under the current cap. Compared to what players will get in 2 years, this deal will be a bargain. If the salary cap is 108 million in a couple of years, 28 million is like 25% of the cap.
Hence, the game is asset creation. A Bledsoe or Knight locked in at 14/yr becomes an asset, even if it looks like we overpaid for the time being.
And call me an optimist, but I don't see why PHX is necessarily out of the running this year. If you're Aldridge or Love, and have the choice between a team like DAL/SA or PHX, you have to wonder how much longer the likes of Dirk and Duncan will play. More likely than not, they would be stuck in a rebuilding situation. And the other angle to play here, in the case of Aldridge, is that PHX is a fairly short flight away from SA -- longer than DAL but still comparable in terms of this being a short flight rather than a reasonable car ride.
LAL is another story, though.

Yeah, someone said that in '17 it'll be like he's signed for 8.5 Million. All I care about is if it precludes us from signing a tier 1 FA. It does not. We need to move Tucker or Marcus anyway if we want to have enough money. So this really changes nothing as far as pursuing FAs this year.

Both will have superior options elsewhere, I'd be shocked if we landed either.
