Can we not use our TPMLE yet?

He won't need to worry about shooting when he's on the floor with Book and KD. Just defend and make layups.
Well being able to shoot would really help Book and KD…no one is gonna guard Okogie.
James Jones is the one that puts a premium on shooting. But this is hardly the first move that goes contrary to what he values.
Elfrid Payton couldn’t shoot for shit.
To INF's point, I think that was a Monty/CP move.

I wouldn’t hate this
Holding out hope on this and somehow Patty Mills being involved in the trade if legal

That would be nice…his signing would hard cap us though and I’m not sure we can stay under the hard cap

Nothing against Patty, but getting older at the PG position and "paying" for it isn't ideal.

I'm curious to see what happens with Austin Rivers.

Why was Payton a Monty/CP move but Okogie is a James Jones move? Did Monty talk about how Payton could date his daughter or something? Did Paul call him a sicko?

You're killing me, FF. Rivers is terrible. He is one of the keys to us dominating the Nuggets.

Also, don't he and Paul still have beef from their Clippers days?

I’ve thought about Conley or Clarkson coming to us if we do trade Ayton to Utah…

Payton is/was a charity case. Okogie (potentially) fills a rotation hole when there aren't many options available.

Neither guy can shoot, so it shows that James Jones will go outside of his box if necessary. I'd hardly call Payton's charity "necessary", but hey, the coach and Hall of Fame PG probably pushed for it.

Terrible as a starter. As a role playing 3rd-4th guard? Not terrible, IMO. The problem is that he has Russell Westbrook syndrome.

I don't know about the beef status, but they're both prideful guys, so maybe?

Assuming we do trade for KD and we somehow keep Mikal, it’s gonna take a huge bite out of our depth. I’ll assume Cam, Crowder, Craig, and Saric are gone with Ayton…

Paul, Payne
Booker, Shamet, Lee
Mikal, Okogie
KD, Wainright
TPMLE, Biyombo, Landale

Is that right? Our bench is real bad

Our bench didn't exactly light it up in the playoffs, either.

That's how it is when you go top heavy on stars tho. The depth takes a hit - like Philly, BK, Lakers, LBJ/DWade Heat teams. You end up with 9th/10th guys starting or in the 6th/7th man roles.

I think we can point to the last season as evidence of how perceived depth can be an illusion when it comes to the Playoffs.

It really only becomes an issue when the star players are injured like we saw with the Lakers and Nets. There's a greater variance with the stars and scrubs approach, but going 10 deep loses value as the games increase in importance.

It would just be nice to have a guy or 2 you could count on off the bench. Not sure we’re gonna have that. Not sure I love it, but wouldn’t be shocked if Melo signed on with us. He’d at least give us some scoring punch.

We had no bench. cam Johsnon got 24 mpg and avgd under 11ppg. Shamet and Payne gave us 4 ppg. Suns need a new bench. So a hard reboot is in order. I’m fine if Cam J goes in the deal. The bottom guys are good enough for some run in the regular season. With Book and KD, guys will line up to come play.
I am hoping for Thomas Bryant waiting in the wings for us.

Would be nice to have Jalen Smith at $4.6M right now instead of Torrey.

It's crazy how often Suns info gets botched by ESPN. Even a simple graphic like that tsk tsk

Biz isn’t official, so he probably got a raise

Biz and McGee are a wash, they were redundant so having one back is still good. Payton was awful and Holiday wasn't getting any time. Only issue I see is that Okogie and Lee and two non shooters at SG/SF. Neither can backup CP or Payne so we probably still need to add another ballhandler.

We’re obviously waiting on KD…but I hope we have a backup plan in mind if we don’t get him
