I don't think spending big time on any of the available centers make sense for the Suns at this point. I'd rather take my chances with the draft considering the going rate for the pound of relevant center in the NBA.

it makes all the sense in the world, if the suns want to keep the team intact. i'm not worried about the suns sf, sg positions. the suns can always move players around to play different positions. i know you dont want to be mocked for suggesting gasol for the suns, but saying the suns can sign him for 4/20 is ridiculous.

Mmmh don't look now, but I was suggesting Gasol quite before the trade deadline, at realgm, and I got all kinds of arguments against, yet nobody mocked me, so I don't think it would happen here, of all the places.

Anyway, I don' want to give him 20M in two years. I could be ok with a longer deal but with smaller amounts so he doesn't take away from the team's flexibility. But read again, I said I don't think he'd listen to such offer.

Preserving said flexibility is what would keep me away from Monroe and Gortat too, and it doesn't really have to do with wanting to keep the team intact. I like many of our pieces, but the team needs upgrades at the three and a big man who can play on both sides of the court, and I don't believe Monroe or Gortat are that, at least enough to warrant what they'd command to sign here.

if you dont believe in the team, you'd want flexibility just to have an escape option. this is the question everybody should be directing at mcdo: do you build on the team's success, in which case, there's no need to change the core roster, just add one more key piece, or do you do nothing and hope for the best (or worst, if you want the #1 pick for next year).

if mcdo wants to change the roster, go for the home run and trade for kevin love or cousins. i'm not interested in lateral moves.

I agree with not being interested in lateral moves. The Suns aren't there yet, but if the opportunity arises to make a major move to get better, I hope they jump on it. I don't think that Gasol is that type of move though. I like Gasol, and I think he probably has some good life still in him, but I'm afraid he wouldn't make much of a difference on the future of this team going forward.

No way would I pay the current Gasol $10m / year. I like the dude, but he's on the tail end of his career.

I wonder if he wants to play in Memphis with his brother?

Pau, ZBo, Marc would be a nasty trio for Memphis.

Z-Bo could play small forward for them.

The Gasol Bros could do some real damage together.

Memphis adding Pau isn't more than a nice luxury. Memphis is vulnerable on the perimeter, lacking scoring and shooting from the wings. Pau doesn't address any of that. Sure it would give them great depth, but in the grand scheme of things, I don't see how his addition significantly changes the team's standing in the West.

I always wondered how the Spanish National team of a few years ago would have done as an NBA franchise. It's pretty stacked - the Gasols, Rubio, Calderon, Rudy, Navarro, Sergio Rodriguez, Garbajosa, Navarro, etc. That would have been at least a playoff team.

Pau to Memphis doesn't make any sense unless they are moving Randolph. Sure its easy to link them cause of his brothers and he previously played there, but unless Zbo is moved, its a very poor fit and will clog the paint.

I don't see Gasol signing for backup money....or signing on to be a backup in general. If he does and accepts a 20-22mpg role...then it could work. It didn't work with Dwight Howard taking up all the C mins though in LA (although admittedly a different system)

IMO If he signs he will expect to play in crunch time and have a prominent role in the offense. You aren't taking Zbo or Marc Gasol off the floor in crunch time and playing all 3 at the same time could be disastrous for floor spacing. This is his last chance for a winner though, so maybe he accepts reduced mins.

The Grizz next 3 bigs off the bench played a combined 12mins vs the Thunder in Game 4 in an OT Game.

In Game 3 Kosta Kofus played 17mins as the only other Big off the bench. Both games were OT games.

Maybe its a matchup thing with OKC? but in the 2013 first rd vs the the DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin lead Clippers Memphis's 1st big off the bench (Darrell Arthur) got 7,6,12,17,18,12 mins in the 6 games.

I just don't see where the mins would be for Gasol, unless he is willing to accept that role which I doubt.

If they went to just a 3-man rotation at the 4 and 5 spots, then Randolph and Marc Gasol could each play 34 minutes, and Pau Gasol could play 28.

Right. I actually think Pau would be a sneaky good fit for them. Though yes, they do need 3-point shooting and just generally better perimeter players more than they probably need Pau Gasol. But I figure the situation might work out well to go for Pau anyway, because he might give them a "discounted" price for the benefit of playing with his brother and playing for a good playoff team.

I think he'd help them a lot because basically at all times they could have 2 of those three on the court. Start Marc and Z-Bo. When the first one (say, Marc) comes out, Pau comes in, now you have Pau and Z-Bo, and you don't really skip a beat. Then when it's time for Z-Bo to rest, you bring back in Marc for him, and you have the Twin Gasol Towers in there until Randolph is ready to return. I think that's a really scary big man rotation, with Kosta Koufos as the fourth one for injury insurance, filling in random minutes here and there, or finishing blowout games if needed. Signing Pau plus maybe getting one cheap perimeter guy like an Anthony Morrow or other 3pt bomber, and I think that team looks really scary.
