I have also noticed the outages. I just sent a support email to Dreamhost. They have a page about outages; it says that servers along the west coast were recently moved and updated, and I think that may be responsible for it. But hopefully they can look into the issue.

I saw the issue again as soon as I read this but then I went and cleared my cache and flushed my DNS and so far, so good.

Mori, do you have access to the Apache error logs? If not, you may want to request those and review what could possibly be causing the site to sputter and die.

The last few weeks at my work have just been nuts. I pulled an all-nighter on Saturday of all days and then spent all of Sunday grading tests. I'll email Dreamhost again tonight and also try to get the Apache logs. It's possible that we have something set up wrong in the site that is just showing up now, but I can't imagine what. More likely they are just flaking out on us and moved us to a crappy new server. If it keeps being bad I'll consider taking my business elsewhere. We don't have THAT much traffic; it can't be us overwhelming their servers.

I couldn't get on all of today until just now. Everything was fine to begin with. It was after the server move that things went to pot.

If they are asking for traceroutes let me know, I'll be happy to provide one.

It's been just really bad. I actually have several other domains also hosted by Dreamhost (buildingjavaprograms.com, webstepbystep.com, martystepp.com) that are all also having the same issues, so I know it's nothing related to the board's content. I sent Dreamhost a freak-out email but no answer yet.

Shouldn't you have called it websteppbystepp.com?

Either way, Mori - if you're paying for this, it's an out-and-out crime.
