It's certainly funny our best players are the 2 we picked at 14 & 13.

That's good for our future as that's where we've mostly picked in our franchise's history.

Nash, Amare, Majerle...

Agreed. I think we as a board and the Suns see these prospects up on a pedestal when in reality most of our prospects are low level and certainly not upper echelon young guys. If any 1 of Bender, Chriss, Ulis, DJJ, Davon Reed makes an all star team, I would be surprised. They are, I think, all destined to be 6th-10th men in this league.
Not everybody (most don't) make the all-star team. We don't need everybody on the roster on the all-star team. (Then we would be the Warriors. ;))
Sorry I disagree. If we’re going to spend 4-5 years invested in a young player and tanking, it better be for players worth investing in. To spend that time developing 2 top 10 picks and have them become your 7th man is a huge disappointment. You don’t build your team around blossoming bench fodder.
Len, Warren, Booker, Bender, Chriss, Jackson.

Those are our lottery picks since 2013. We picked 5th, 14th, 13th, 4th, 8th, 4th. Kinda sucks that 2 of the 3 drafts we had top 5 picks in ended up being pretty crappy drafts. Luckily we made a great pick with Booker. If he's the only all star or near all star level player out of this group I'll be disappointed, but look at the picks individually and it's hard to find fault in them. No obvious picks after our guys that we should have made instead.
I agree with your sentiment. But just because you draft a guy doesn’t mean you have to stubbornly continue to devote the same level of commitment to tout them as “the future” just because they were a top 10 pick. When you realize they’re destined to be role players, make a move. I have never seen an organization do this before. Completely baffles me that we’re content developing the leagues best future bench players

In retrospect, I definitely would have made that trade of Bledsoe and Jackson for Irving.

You start with stars and build role players around them, not the other way around

I was against the idea during the offseason, but I am 100000% with you now on this. Kyrie is just so so so so soooo much better than anyone on this roster. Jackson is likely never even going to get close to that level.

Mori is gonna come for all you guys in a bit because he was quite adamant about not thinking twice about adding Josh

Hahaha I know and i also was 100% against it. Better put up a nude Rubio pic real quick to distract him

I think he's worth developing. He's a special athlete and has already shown some defensive skill. G league is probably where he should be right now though. He needs playing time. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if we cut him when James gets his contract picked up and then we sign him to the two way contract. Assuming no one else gives him a NBA deal. Is that even allowed? Is it 2 two-way contracts at a time or for the season?

Side note: I really want the G league to become a real minor league. Guys like Chriss and Bender would have benefited greatly playing there all last year.

Good point. There still seems to be a stigma about playing there rather than it being a place for young guys to get minutes and work through their mistakes

LOL you guys. Don't mess with my Ru-BAE-o.

But yeah, all of you who thought we shouldn't include Josh Jackson and Bledsoe to get Kyrie, I hope you're real proud of yourselves.

Haven't seen a worse Suns take in a while.

Yep. I’m eating crow. Really, really mad about that decision.

And for the argument that he may have left in 2 years, well it’s better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all.

It would have been Bled + Josh + a pick, and I don't know what else. And we would still be bad. It would be hard to match the offer Celts gave up unless the Cavs love Josh a ton.

The chances of Irving signing an extension with Boston in my opinion are less then 50% even with the good start.
The chances of Irving signing an extension with the Suns less then 30% regardless of how we started.

Trading your future (Josh Jackson or the value of him) for the less then a 30% chance at keeping Irving is the exact type of thing that sets you back 5 years.
Not to mention we have absolutely no chance of making the playoffs let alone getting past the first round. In the next 2 years.
It makes no sense to rent a player at our stage.

Being let down as many times as we have a Suns fans you think we would know that by now. How on earth would anyone even in hind sight make that Irving trade?

You never know how things can break. Can't play scared. Get Kyrie, put him with Booker and maybe Chriss and Bender look better? Maybe another FA takes notice? You just never know. Gotta have him tho to find out. It would've been risky and the price would've been steep but I think it would've been worth it.

Even if the Suns made the trade for Kyrie, he would've never resigned here with Watson (Klutch Sports) as the coach. And I"m pretty damn sure he wouldn't want to go through the firing of a head coach. It's a pointless 'what if'.

The rumor was Cleveland wanted bled/Jackson/1st. I think it was the right move to say no to that. Would it have been terrible? No, but we'd still have been a lotto team even with Kyrie and I think Kyrie was gone after two years or requesting a trade after 1. I wasn't adamantly against including Jackson in a trade for Kyrie but I thought bled + Miami pick + one of Warren/Chriss/Bender was a fair offer.

I think we should give Jackson more than 10 games to determine if keeping him out of trade talks for Kyrie was a bad idea or not.

I would trade our entire team minus Booker for Irving. We could figure the rest out later

I wouldn't. I think there's a better than not chance that duo breaks up before we figure it out. And if we do figure it out, does that make us Portland? Washington? Is Kyrie/Booker any better than Lillard/McCollum or Wall/Beal?

I still think we're heading in a good direction. Booker looks like a star, I'm still optimistic about Jackson becoming special and i think Warren/Bender/ulis/Williams can be 5-8 men. So we probably need two more guys on the Booker and Jackson(if he pans out) level.

We should have a really good shot at drafting one next year and then we have a few options for landing the 2nd:

1. One of our bench crew (Warren/Bender/Chriss etc.) develops better than expected.
2. We draft another stud with the Miami or Milwaukee pick
3. We sign a free agent
4. We package some lesser assets for one bigger asset.

So I think the two most important things are:

1. One or preferably 2 of Jackson/Bender/Chriss/Warren needs to turn into something special
2. We absolutely need to hit a home run with the 2018 draft

Agreed. I still think it was the right move unless you just wanted a couple of good seasons and didn't want to contend for the top 5 in next year's draft.

We keep contending for these draft picks but never get in the top 3 and haven't seen the returns on most of the guys we've drafted.

Yes, Book/Irving has the potential to be the best backcourt offensively in the league.

I think it would be shocking if any of the aforementioned guys turns into anything special.

You win in this league with stars. Right now we have 1 potential star and nobody else on the horizon.

I’d much rather have 2 stars and have a great problem of figuring out how to surround them with talent. Thats a great problem to have. Right now we have nothing.
