Seems really strange that McD would be allowed to build the team all summer and get fired now. Is it just because he hasn't gotten a PG? Sarver must not be very happy with how we've played preseason. Going to be real interesting what the new GM does. James Jones has had some influence with recent additions, so if it's him, we might not see too many changes.
Weird timing, but by no means am I upset. McD was fairly questionable in his time here. Don't know if I'm ready to make Jones the GM yet. Would like a more experienced hand. David Griffin comes to mind as an option.
Has to be because he hasnt found a point guard yet. So suprising that if it was his job on the line that he wouldn't have overpaid to get one earlier.
Not a great sign for the future of the team moving forward.
Bad timing above all. If he was this close to being fired before the moves, he should have been sacked right after the season ended. You never know, but I guess it won't be hard to find a replacement for a C- exec, although if Sarver indeed is getting involved even more, it won't matter until he sells.
I mean, not saying his decisions didn't warrant this but why do it now?
Has to be the failure to land a competent PG. We made a lot of moves to be a good team and the lack of a PG is going to keep is in the 30 win range. We've looked awful in preseason and I'd guess sarver had enough. Kinda wish this would have happened pre draft. I mostly liked what we did this summer, but it would have been nice for continuity reasons. New GM could make some significant changes.
Weird timing. Something must have happened. As usual makes us look like a total circus. Why not fire him before the coaching search and most important draft in your organization’s history? Didn’t you just extend him a year?
It must be about the PG situation. I won’t be surprised to see us overpay with first round picks for an average PG.
Im sure James Jones is a nice guy but I'm very much against former players as GMs.
I would think the skill set for playing basketball is drastically different than the skillset needed to be GM. That doesnt mean it cant happen (Danny Ainge), but usually it doesnt work out.

In my opinion, not a good reason if true, especially since teams seem to be demanding an unprotedted 1stR, which is beyond preposterous unless you are giving me a star.
The timing of this is very strange. If this was even in consideration, why let McD run the entire off season? I think we are in good(ish) shape for the future right now, but I disagree with almost everything he did over the last 4 months.

Guess Mike James wasn't a fan of McD
Still bitter about getting cut?
“Are you crazy?! You think I’m going to go for seven years and try to get there? You enjoy the 2030 draft picks that we have holding? I want to try to see the game today.” — Ish 3/13/25
I dont think this has anything to do with the current PG situation.
McD favored a long term, draft-centered approach and it hasn't been working.
Yeah, it doesn't work when you bust on 3 (maybe 4) of your top 10 picks. Honestly, this is a bit shocking to me. The timing is off here. If it is because of the Blazers game, I just don't know how you can make any determinations about the team in preseason when Booker isn't playing. We'll look significantly different when he's back.
What a weird move, especially since this off-season has been pretty positive as far as I'm concerned. And the Chriss trade, while unspectacular, wasn't bad. The day Sarver sells is going to be a bright day for the franchise.

Ya I'm worried this might mean the new guy will need to make a big splash. I imagine only Booker and Ayton are safe.
Sounds good to me. Only Booker and Ayton are truly relevant NBA material. The rest is essentially question marks and fungible stuff, with only TJ and maybe Jackson (on a good day) registering a blip on the radar.
