I don't think Carter is what we're missing. We're missing a pure PG. Here are some PGcandidates for buyouts that are better than Elfrid:

John Wall - unrealistic
Dennis Schroder - not a pure PG and per Marc Stein likely staying with Houston
Cory Joseph - to me a good option if we're ballsy enough to waive Elf
Satoransky - Having a really bad year, but better on paper than Elf. Can't see this happening.

There are also a few options at the 2 if we're looking for short-term guard depth like Gary Harris and Ben McLemore.

Yeah, The Valley jersey is the 2nd best jersey they've ever had. You don't retire it after 2 seasons when you can even make enough of them to sell.

I've been trying to buy a black one and an orange one for so long now. A while back I ordered an orange Bridges one from Fanatics and after like a month, they told me it was sold out and just refunded my money. I have a white Booker one and a Purple Ayton one; it would be great to get the other ones.

So, originally I was definitely on the "Jevon Carter is not what we really need" bandwagon. But, is that true? I know that right now it feels like we need a pure PG since CP3 is out. But a) those guys don't grow on trees, b) we actually have 2-3 pretty decent PGs in Payton, Holiday, and even Book can run the offense somewhat, and c) CP3 will be back eventually, and I'm more concerned with who we need for the playoff run. The player I worry about most in our active rotation is Landry Shamet. If Book ever (God forbid) had to miss some games, we are super duper thin at SG. I guess we could play Holiday there, but Payne is hard to watch as an SG, and Payton can't shoot. In terms of bench backcourts, I would trust Payne/Carter or Holiday/Carter more than any bench backcourt we would currently have that excludes both CP3 and Book.

We need an improvement on Shamet, not depth behind him. I don’t really see how Carter is better than Holiday. He’d be behind CP3, Book, Payne, Shamet, and Holiday on the guard list for me.

Edit: It looks like Carter signed with Milwaukee, anyway. (Ugh! I don't want to see them get any more depth! He could actually play against us in the Finals now.)

If he’s getting significant minutes in the finals against us, that’s a good thing.

Agreed, come playoff time I don’t think we see anyone but CP3/Book/Payne in the guard rotation. We’ll just slide a wing down to the 2.

CP3, Book, Bridges, Crowder, Ayton, Payne, Johnson, Craig, McGee…those are the guys I expect to see come playoff time.

I think our closing lineup for the next two months is going to be Ayton, Crowder, Cam J, Mikal and Point Book.
