Hopefully Mikal gets on the All-Defensive team.
He's a lock for 1st team.
Nothing when it comes to accolades and the Phoenix Suns is a lock.
Didn't Marion finish 2nd in DPOY one year with the Suns and still not make All-Defensive team?

-edit- Marion came in 4th in 2007.

Right, you got it on the edit.

Weird thing about that year was Raja Bell being 1st team All-Defense and 23rd in DPOY voting.

No one really knew what to do with the Suns and defensive recognition during the 7SOL era. Marion deserved more recognition, but there was a lack of understanding individual defensive performance at that time.

You could compound on that, as it was based off of points allowed and didn't adjust for pace and number of possessions. The 7SOL Suns made it look in that sense that they had a horrible defense, when it wasn't the really the case as they played so many more possessions than a team that slowed the pace to a crawl.

Who are we "rooting" for in this Jazz-Mavs series? On the one hand, I love seeing the Jazz implode. On the other, I think the Mavs with Luka will be a tougher 2nd round opponent (who we'll beat).

My hot take? I think Suns beat either team in 5 games. Not sure if I have a preference tbh.

This is where I'm at as well. I think either series goes a maximum of 6 games if the Suns are healthy.

Mikal deserved DPOY, but he was classy about it going to Smart. I love how you can have your whole team play like wet ass for half the season, then decide to start trying for the second half, then win DPOY if you play for the Boston Celtics.

Smart getting DPOY feels like a Lifetime Achievement vote to me. He's always been a great defender so why this year over other years? Voters felt pressured to give it to a guard/wing over a big, Smart's been doing it a long time while Mikal is the up and comer, probably some East Coast bias and the Celts overall defensive ranking. He's been deserving of DPOY, but not this year over Mikal.

Even Dave Pasch, who lives in Phx metro, voted for Smart over Mikal. This just doesn't feel right to me. Smart is a strong and tough defender that borders dirty. He's a very good defender, but he doesn't effect the entire court like Mikal does. He can focus directly on his man in the defense, knowing that he has smart and athletic help defenders on the perimeter and a backside rim protector. This allows him to have almost blinders on defensively and even gamble at times for those flashy steals without worrying that it's going to hurt his team. Yet, he will still give up 39 points to Kyrie.

Mikal will not only lock down his assignment, but he'll blow up the offensive sets of the rest of the team. He'll rotate from one player to another and sometimes guarding 4 different guys in a single 24 second possession. You can see how others shoot when he's matched up with him, and he just erases them from the game essentially. The only way they can combat it is to screen him off in pick n roll situations to match up with someone more suitable.

Ok now catching up on things
No surprise Mikal being all class about coming 2nd although I believe him to be genuine he always is diplomatic but I'm sure gonna still play with an edge going forward

I know the other Sickos the ones who not gonna hide their opinions lol

We should kick Pasch out of the state. Make him live in Boston.

I saw a great tweet (from Espo maybe?) saying that Smart getting DPOY was his biggest steal of the year. Zing!

That's just making it worse for him. When will people learn that it's always better to be in on the joke?

That'll be interesting as I'm not convinced he's all that excited about playing NBA basketball.

After watching the first round so far, Vegas likes the Warriors. Understandable, but all they've done is beat up on a wounded Nuggets team that was never going to make it out of the first round.
