I really hate that kind of rhetoric. We've seen it in many forms whether it was the NBA dress code, NFL players kneeling during the anthem, or now NIL in college football. It has some really ugly undertones and it seems that most of the people on the angry side all look the same.
I have a problem with how Draymond acted after his ejection. Respect the game and get off the court. He chose to dance around and make a mockery of the situation. Patrick Beverly did the same thing when he undercut Chris Paul in the playoffs last year. Did you have a problem with that?

I usually like JJ’s takes, but I think he is wrong here. He says he doesn’t care about the older generation of fans, the fans that have supported their teams for decades. That’s a problem.

And you say the people that are angry about what happened all look the same. According to JJ they all have gray hair. Is that what you meant too? I think Bobster, Superbone, Lazarus Long, me and many more of us have a problem with that.
This is going to make me sound like a bitter old man, but I think the respect for the game gave way to the constant need for attention that a lot of people have nowadays. You see it on social media with all the attempts to grab your "15 minutes of fame" and stretch it out as long as possible.

There has to be a middle ground between Bob Gibson or Don Drysdale knocking down a batter who gets a good swing on him and players celebrating routine plays like they just went out and cured cancer.

Respect the game and your opponents, life isn't all about you even if people are willing to pay you an ungodly amount of money because you're good at throwing a ball through a metal ring.
It is just a game. Would you say "respect the game" if you were talking about marbles or Uno? And one way these guys make their money is how they play to the crowd. They are not just athletes. That isn't very lucrative. They are entertainers. They should entertain.
Yeah, I think "Respect the Game" applies to all kinds of competition and includes having some respect for your competition. Some of us aren't here to see someone shimmy after a basket or beat on his chest after getting a hit, or signal "first down" when your team's down by three touchdowns in the 4th quarter.

Like I said, I'm an old fart.
Do you hate Chris when he talks shit to the bench/coaches? Or when he is killing them in the 4th and signals they need to take a time out?

 on your last comment.

Let's just say Chris Paul has some personality traits that seem less endearing than others.

But he's Chris Motherfucking Paul, so we tend to overlook them.

12 mil per? Not bad for a role player.

A good deal, but just to keep things in perspective, remember when free agency was coming into full bloom in the late 1970s and superstar players signed contracts like this? -

1977 Pete Maravich - 5 years, $3 million (NBA scoring title)
1977 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar - 6 years, $3.9 million (reigning MVP)
1978 David Thompson - 5 years, $3.75 million (re-signed to keep him from filing for free agency)
1978 Artis Gilmore - 7 years, $4.5 million
1979 Bill Walton - 5 years, $5 million (free agent)
1979 Larry Bird - 5 years, $3.25 million (to prevent 1978 draft choice from going back into the draft)
1979 Magic Johnson - 5 years, $2.5 million (1979 #1 draft choice)
1979 Moses Malone - 3 years, $3.15 million (reigning MVP)
1979 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar - 4 years, $4 million (renegotiated)

My how the salary structure has changed.

I like Covington if you use him correctly. He’s not a lockdown defender, but he’s great as a help defender. He’d be pretty decent in the Jae Crowder role. Can provide secondary rim protection, gets in passing lanes and gets his hands on a lot of balls. Pretty good rebounder. He can shoot, just don’t ask him to do anything else. 10-12 mil per year seems about right to me.

How about that Magic Johnson 25-year, $25m deal that he signed in 1981? :-)

$12M is more than I'd like the Suns to pay Covington in a hypothetical sense. The standard MLE is $10M next season, so I guess it's not a terrible deal.

For the record, I like Jae over Covington and Jae is cheaper. Jae is probably worth more than the MLE

Good for Jokic, but his team got rekt in the first round, so he'll have to accept the award from his front porch or something. Meanwhile, Embiid is carrying the Sixers to a competitive second-round series against Miami.

This cracked me up. Jokic's pick was literally made while the broadcast was away for a Taco Bell commercial.

Congrats Monty, well deserved.
(I hope he coaches like the coach of the year for the rest of the playoffs, as I feel - like the team - that he hasn’t been at his best at times these playoffs)

This was sad news today. I remember wanting the Suns to draft him.
