I think it is only weird if you ignore the season they have had to this point.

We'll have representation at the Finals.
Re: Around the League: Week 18 (2/13 - 2/19)
We’ve been rough. We’re still 4th in the west. And the first 25 games counted as much as the next 25.
Precious Achiuwa, Dalano Banton, Batum, Chris Boucher, Amir Coffey, Tre Jones, Laravia, Mamukelashvili, Tre Mann, De'Anthony Melton, Minott, Nance, Chris Paul, GP2, T. Prince, Reed, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Tate, Watford, Yabusele

Other than Huerter and Hield, I really don't get that 3-point Contest lineup at all.

Simons is 2nd in the league in 3 point makes. Lillard is 4th, Tatum is 7th, Lauri is 9th. Haliburton is 22nd and shooting 40%.
I can see quibbling with Herro, he’s only at 37% and has made the least total 3s of the 8 in the contest, but the others seem to fit right in to me.

I think if it was up to me I’d drop Herro, Haliburton, and Tatum for Klay, Bane, and KCP.
Re: Around the League: Week 18 (2/13 - 2/19)
I seem to remember one of the past criticisms of the All-Star events was the lack of name recognition. But I feel that was more directed toward the dunk competition, but it seems the NBA has applied it to the 3-point contest.

The 3pt contest has been the better event since Gordon/LaVine stopped doing the dunk contest

I don't care either way, but when I think of Anfernee Simons I don't think "3pt shooter". Get the snipers, the specialists who fans and teams know are the pure shooters. Someone like CamJ should be in it every year.
Or switch it up and change the 3pt spots around, get them running between the 3pt lines like they're pulling up in transition from 30ft out. Get Trae and Dame in those kinds of contests. Lose the racks and get teammates or someone out there passing to them.

I’m all for the 2nd paragraph, but Simons is 43/41/38 from 3 the last 3 years on a bunch of attempts. You may not think 3pt shooter, but he absolutely is one of the best.ShelC wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2023 4:24 pmI don't care either way, but when I think of Anfernee Simons I don't think "3pt shooter". Yeah, I think the All-Star weekend does enough of just going off of reputation. We don't need more of that.

I want to see the best three point shooters period. I don't care about name recognition. I want to see the best of the best.

I think it is less anointing and more expectation. This group should get to the Finals. There isn't an unstoppable force in the West. Plenty of good, talented teams, but no one that intimidates anyone. It is wide open.
Re: Around the League: Week 18 (2/13 - 2/19)
As much as we gave up, I expect at least getting to the Finals in the next 3 years. And I don't believe what we say or think affects their chances.

Agreed, to a certain extent.
Durant still has to come back from his injury. Paul has to stay healthy, which likely won't happen. And then the team actually has to play together and mesh. I don't know how long it will take for all of that to come together. It may not be possible this season, but we'll see.

Ayton is already a question mark. What happens to him when we have Durant and Booker looking to get theirs? Ayton's game and mentality lend themselves to him being marginalized. I'm not sure if the Suns can reach unstoppable force level if Ayton goes into wallflower mode.

Was that dunk of the night a joke?
