If we resign for the minimum, we can use the TPMLE. If we stretch, we can use the full MLE and BAE
Plus our $5M TPE.
We can only trade someone into that.
Correct.

There’s risk here. If we’re not stretching him and he goes to the Lakers or whatever, that’s a huge miss. He may have given us a wink wink deal, but some other team may still step up with a big money offer a la Carlos Boozer. He no longer has his buddy Monty here, so that may be a factor in his decision making.
Can we decide after the fact to stretch his salary?
Are we even allowed to negotiate with him (as if he's a free agent) before deciding whether to stretch him or not? (Assuming the new rule about talking to your own free agents earlier is not in effect yet this year.)

I just don’t see CP playing for a team who isn’t a contender, and I don’t see any contenders who would pay significant money for him at this point. I feel like they wouldnt have waived him and not stretch, if they didn’t already know he was probably coming back.
The only risk I see is maybe the Spurs claiming him but then they would take his 30mil and we’d get a full MLE and BAE.

So basically they just told him that Flex is wrong--they're not picking up his contract.

Will Somebody write out how much player contract $ we will have if we waive him and re-sign on minimum vs waive and stretch? Whats the full MLE and BAE?

Yep, the Bazley trade.

It seemed like Paul was good for about one out of three quarters this past season, and most of them were when he actually got more than a half inch off of the ground on his mid-range shots and played really good defense.
He's obviously going to be even slower next season athletically, and his spot up shooting will continue to be streaky. I'm at the point where I think letting him go to the Lakers could turn into a really good move for the Suns because it hamstrings the Lakers with all of Paul's shortcomings at this point in his career. Obviously the salary probably won't be an issue at the minimum, but if they're trying to squeeze him into their scheme and rotation at the expense of younger and better players, then it's a win for every other team in the league.

The expectation is that the Suns would stretch and waive Paul's contract, spreading the cap hit over a longer term to create more salary cap space in ensuing years.
Paul continues to want to return to the Suns and partner with his close friend Devin Booker and Kevin Durant, sources said. Nevertheless, Paul and his representatives want the organization to make a quicker decision on his future so that he can proceed out into free agency, if indeed the Suns ultimately waive him, sources said.

I’m fine either way…sign him for the minimum or stretch the contract and use the MLE

Yep, the Bazley trade.
We’d still have to stay under the 1st Apron to use it though…we’ll see how much space we end up with.

Right, but if we stretch CP3 we could use it.

It’s an uneasy situation. I don’t love relying on diminishing returns from CP3 but also have concerns about being able to get better through the few avenues a trade/stretch/waive opens up. High stakes and it will be super interesting to see what our roster looks like in a couple of months

No one with half of a brain will trade for Paul when they know he'll eventually be waived.
Edit: I kinda take that back. I guess a team could try to shed salary by trading for and waiving him. What I meant was that no team should trade for him if they intend on keeping him on their roster.

His times over with us. He has failed us every year in the playoffs with actually being able to suit up. Time to move on.
