Better showing from Roddy in this one for sure, mainly because he again was off the ball most of the game. His shot was falling, he was crashing the boards. Had 5 assists but also 4 TOs, feels like he's a TO waiting to happen when he puts the ball on the floor. Oso and Dunn didn't have many opportunities on the offensive end but flashed some nice things when they had the ball. Oso worked the high post well with a great bounce pass down the lane to a cutter and drove hard for a layup off a fake DHO. Dunn hit his first 3 and has shown some dribble drive ability to at least get in the lane and kick it out to a shooter. His handles and awareness seem solid enough but he's also not even looking at the basket when he drives, he's dribbling to make the pass. Wong was probably our best guard, has a toughness to his game offensively and seemed in control. Buie got his offense going, and Bridges was letting it fly going 3-5 from 3. His defense hasn't stood out and he's not contributing on the boards but he looks like a knockdown shooter.

I'm happy as long as Roddy gets his touches.

You can't be serious. I don't like anything about Roddy. That little chunk is a waste of a roster spot IMO

He just doesn't really stand out in any area and doesn't fill a need for us. He may end up an NBA rotational player and maybe we're working hard to showcase him in SL for a trade down the line. We just don't need a 6-4 240lb 3pt shooter right now.

specialsauce's Roddy gets plenty of touches as it is! His "little chunk" is the last thing I want to see!

Nah, I'm not serious. I'm just bitching because he has consistently leads the team in minutes and shot attempts. And maybe I'm concerned about the fact that none of our 3 new guys have asserted their will on the offensive end.

As ShelC said, maybe we are showcasing him for some reason.

Pretty sure OG was tongue in cheek, man.

Well, Jalen Bridges has. He's shown a nice stroke. I guess he could be more aggressive. Speaking of which, Oso had the ball next to the basket with a guard guarding him and he kicked it out. That was disappointing. He needs to learn to be more aggressive around the hoop. The announcers let him have it about that too.

We didn’t draft offensive players…they aren’t going to look good on offense without other good offensive players.

Dunn and Oso are late-first and second round drafted players. They have been and will continue to be complementary role players. I think it's great they are playing within their roles. Dunn has looked great on D, and Oso looks great with his playmaking.

I don’t think we should expect either of the rookies to see meaningful minutes this year. But I think the team is doing what we’ve been clamoring for for years. Which is develop some younger pieces on the side as well. My hope is that the veterans can play well enough that these young guys see some meaningful action alongside them, not for this year but for the future.

I don't think Dunn is an NBA player.

What do you mean by that? That he should be playing g league/overseas? Or that he’s not a rotation player on a contender?

The league is full of players that you’d probably say aren’t nba players(Okogie, Oubre, Roddy, Little)…

Is he not an NBA player the way Thanasis isn’t an nba player, or not an NBA player the way Josh Okogie isn’t an nba player?

I think he'll be out of the league in 5 years. Worse than Okogie.

He can't shoot AND he has no feel for the game with the ball in his hands offensively.

I'd definitely put him in the category with guys like Okogie, Roberson and Thybulle. They got rotational minutes early on and were high level defenders before they kind of leveled off and teams/coaches realized it was hard to play them because of the lack of offense. This could definitely be the case with Dunn, tho I think his size and length gives him more of an advantage and a bit more potential to stick.

Getting a Roberson / Thybulle at the 28th pick is still pretty good. In the worst case you can put him in for a few key defensive plays when you really need a stop.

All 3 got significant paydays after their rookie deals. I do think Roberson would have a hard time playing in todays game.. he played a lot early on with OKC(signed a 3/30 contract) but quickly faded away as shooting became more important. Thybulle has proven to be a better shooter than any of the 4 and he’s still playing. I think Okogie is a fringe rotation player, but he’s a clear nba player.

I do agree Dunn will need to be at least competent(32-35%) from 3 eventually to stick as a rotation guy. I can’t see someone with his size and defensive ability being out of the league though. Okogie isn’t competent from 3 and continues to hang around as a smaller and less gifted defender.

Mostly I think it’s very premature to try and make any judgements(good or bad) on summer league play. We’ve got defensive minded role players playing alongside g league level ball handlers…Dunn looks bad when he’s creating on offense, I won’t argue that, but he shouldn’t be asked to create anything on offense. If he plays in the regular season, all we should ask him to do is stand in the corner(or the dunker spot) and take catch and shoot 3s or cut to the rim and finish dunks…no need to dribble or play make at all. Maybe let him set some screens and roll.
