If it's so easy to see, why are we on the cusp of missing the playoffs? pffft....specialsauce wrote: ↑Tue Mar 18, 2025 12:03 pmFragile egotistical bus riderShelC wrote: ↑Tue Mar 18, 2025 11:49 amKD back at it on social media. I like Voita of BSoS, think he's one of the more level headed suns writers. And really, we have a good fanbase on social that's pretty even keeled. The KD stans go overboard IMO but the fact that KD is bickering with Suns fans like this....

the drama... it's all about the drama and people eat that crap up. I’m a little puzzled (and a little annoyed) at why the exercise of making up trades is so dominant in discussion on social media and sports ‘journalism.’ It’s not just a silly thing people do now and then, it’s a constant torrent of hypothetical trades. What makes it so appealing?
People love playing GM. It also creates a sense of hope for teams/fans that don’t have much. Same appeal that draft picks are…hoping you hit big.Cap wrote: ↑Wed Mar 19, 2025 9:53 amThese articles are always useless exercises.Superbone wrote: ↑Wed Mar 19, 2025 8:11 amA useless exercise according to Ishbia.Kryptonic wrote: ↑Wed Mar 19, 2025 6:09 amFour potential Devin Booker trade destinations

I agree. It's ridiculous. It's not just social media. I have "articles" that pop up all the time in my "news" feeds, that say stuff like, "Lakers acquire 4-time all-star shooting guard from Phoenix..." With the remainder of the headline cut off saying "... in this bullshit trade that I just made up." They purposely make it look like its real. It's all over the place.Cap wrote: ↑Wed Mar 19, 2025 9:53 amThese articles are always useless exercises.Superbone wrote: ↑Wed Mar 19, 2025 8:11 amA useless exercise according to Ishbia.Kryptonic wrote: ↑Wed Mar 19, 2025 6:09 amFour potential Devin Booker trade destinations

It’s much less common to see people playing coach, other than complaining about rotations.Split T wrote: ↑Wed Mar 19, 2025 10:11 amPeople love playing GM. I was going to mention this. And it’s not just Twitter. When I open up Google, I see these headlines that mention speculation as if they really happened. It’s absolutely ridiculous. Should really be illegal.Carno wrote: ↑Wed Mar 19, 2025 10:45 amI agree. It's ridiculous. It's not just social media. People, STOP CLICKING on this shit!
We should do a much better of teaching people to recognize and avoid clickbait. The techniques for manipulating people with clickbait headlines and titles are well known. It’s a science. The techniques would be much less effective if their targets recognized the techniques being employed.Superbone wrote: ↑Wed Mar 19, 2025 1:21 pmI was going to mention this. And it’s not just Twitter. Indeed, owner Mat Ishbia has come out and said that a Booker trade will “never happen”, which would be an emphatic article-ender if NBA team owners always did what they said they would.
Yes, playing coach is much harder. Fans are too reactive to results and not process. We don’t always see the process for what it is and judge whether the coach is doing a good job based on whether the shots go in or not. I include myself in that too. It’s hard to pick up on details watching live…also when you don’t actually know what the ask is.Cap wrote: ↑Wed Mar 19, 2025 1:19 pmIt’s much less common to see people playing coach, other than complaining about rotations.Split T wrote: ↑Wed Mar 19, 2025 10:11 amPeople love playing GM. I guess a big part of the appeal of playing GM is that it’s so easy. You just get the Trade Machine to say this is a valid trade under the rules and impress yourself with your GM skills.
