Caps not wrong for his critique and ish deserves every bit coming his way. He made grandiose comments about things and any backlash is on ish. What once looked like an optimistic future has quickly been ruined by poor transaction and asset management. There’s no quick fix for the issues we have and the best way forward is to stop dumping assets to fix our mistakes.
If we go full rebuild I wouldn’t mind going for a youth movement and finding a college coach to take over and coach them. Go get the Hurley brothers and turn them loose.
Dan Hurley is a clown and Bobby Hurley isn't very good. Hard passzzzzz
I’ll defer to your judgement

I had full faith in Ish until he wussed out at the trade deadline and let KD dictate his own terms at the detriment of the organization. KD should not be on this team right now.
You have this backwards. The Warriors backed out because they couldn't get assurances from KD that he'd re-sign.

Also it should be noted that this was a KD for Butler deal. Not a change in approach, just another version of the same dumb thing we’ve been trying to do all along. It would not meaningfully have changed our fortunes.

I think it would have given us a little more balance to the roster…but more importantly, it also included Kuminga and 2 1sts….thats the baseline for a KD trade now. Needs to top Kuminga/2 1sts on the future side of the deal. Or top Jimmy Butler on the win now side.

I think KD should net us a lot more than Kuminga and two late picks… but only if we’re willing to sacrifice “expected” short-term wins, which we’re apparently not.

I remember a time when NBA fans would riot at the thought of tanking.

Now everyone thinks they can be OKC. Good luck.

Yep, I'm personally glad we aren't planning on tanking. And obviously Ish doesn't hate draft picks like Cap is making it out to be. Just because you want to win now doesn't mean you can't bring in guys from the draft. We're seeing that payoff big time right now. Seems to be part of their strategy. Get the right mix of vets and the right youth pieces. Hopefully, the Suns can improve on that mix for next season. Also, took Bud (FO?) forever to see that we're better when we play the energy guys along with the big-time scorers.

Yep, I think the Butler bandwagon was right that he would have made a big difference here. With or without Durant.

It has to net a lot more than that is my point…quite a bit more, because there’s no Butler.

I’m not saying we wouldn’t have won more games, or had a better culture. I’m just saying it probably wouldn’t have meant much in the long run and we’d still not go anywhere exciting in the short run. But yeah, from an “I want to try to see the game today” perspective, it would have been an improvement. And it actually would have improved the future, Kuminga and two firsts is obviously much better than nothing, but it wasn’t a move that prioritized the future. Not saying we’re better off without the trade, not glad KD nixed it, just saying it didn’t demonstrate a change of philosophy.

Butler wouldn't have made much of a difference IMO. He's more impactful on the Ws because there's leadership in place, cultural infrastructure provided by Kerr and Curry and a roster with a diversification of talent. Curry is different from Butler who's different from Draymond.

I think we may get less than that this summer. We have less leverage and KD has less value. He's part of a year older, and any team trading for him only has him for contract for 1 year, not 1.5 - 2 years. But I want to be optimistic here; he's still a very good player that still has plenty left in the tank, and several teams seem to want him. I think we will be able to find a good trade for him this summer if he stays healthy.

Less than Kuminga and 2 1sts? Or less than Butler, Kuminga, and 2 1sts?
I agree we probably won’t get more than Butler, Kuminga, 2 1sts…but if the best offer is comparable to Kuminga and 2 1sts…just keep him. That’s awful.
I do think we will probably be a little disappointed in the return, but I think the leverage is still there. Any team trading for him is signing him to an extension…I also don’t believe for a second that KD is willing to go into the season without an extension. He’ll sign it with us if we don’t move him…then we can trade him during the season…or right away if it’s kept to a certain amount.

That IS a change in approach. KD and Himmy couldn't be more different.

I am not interested in prioritizing the future. I want win now pieces in addition to young talent, not picks. Any discussion otherwise is cool and cute, but it's not happening. You know who your owner is, and you know Booker is not 22 any more and they are not going to spend three years developing rookies.
Get me a KD for Jaylen Brown swap.
I'll take KD for a combo of Jalen Green with Smith, Sheppard, Whitmore
I'll take KD for Chet.
Hell, I'll take KD for Mikal and Hart.
