I think this contract is at the higher end of the range I was comfortable giving out at the beginning of the off season. The last year is the kicker. I would really have loved to see a team option then but ah well. I'm just happy this is all taken care of. This contract definitely proves McD really believes that he is going to blow up.

This contract isn't going to make or break us. Especially with the new TV contract. You have to take chances and I think the risk is much better than losing him for nothing.

Man our guard lineup is kinda insane. Archie will be lucky to get garbage time. Another concern is that it forces Green to pretty much always play at the three spot. Between Green, PJ and Marcus there probably isn't much time for TJ. I thought that kid looked ready to step right in and do well.

We still really lack bigs. Maybe there is another last minute trade in the works. Although I will be happy to see Len get big minutes.

Fun Fact: These are the exact same terms Joe Johnson got when he left for Atlanta.

Will be interesting to see who they focus on playing in preseason. Wondering if they give our current forwards/C's a chance to prove themselves or they are already targeting some help there.

The 4 and 5 spot don't really matter now that we have Eric locked up. Let's roll!

Five days before players' official reporting day, Bledsoe signed his first major contract with an average salary of $14 million a year, a midpoint between the average salaries of the Suns' initial four-year, $48 million offer and Bledsoe's five-year, $80 million vision. He will make $13 million this season and get $500,000 raises in a contract that has no player or team options, early termination clauses or trade kickers.
"Lon (Babby), Ryan and the Suns have shown confidence in me, and I am looking to take that responsibility and help our team get better from last year and position ourselves to win an NBA championship," Bledsoe said in a prepared statement. "It's why I came back to Phoenix. All summer, I knew that I really would be most comfortable coming back to Phoenix because of the great fans, my Suns teammates and our coaches. I am very happy it was able to work out this way."

Every player in the NBA is overpaid - that is the reality. This whole thing is a calculated gamble . It doesn't help us to hold our money for something better. It's pretty clear FAgents are not clamoring to play in Phoenix . I think it's probably risky , he will likely miss games but whatever.

Hate the contract, but if the larger sum comes after the new tv contract, that could be an ok contract.

"We would not have made this commitment in terms of years or money if we had significant concerns about Eric's health," McDonough said.
Just like you didn't have significant concerns about Alex Len's health?

Obviously not, but that was the reason he missed the SL. He was moving fine, and the legs looked OK in his short stint out on the court. I think he will be fine, more concerned about Bledsoe personally.

Now this is making me angry -- they couldn't even frontload the damn thing? So much for using Bledsoe as a trade asset.

My biggest concern as the Nash era came to a close was, "who would we get to be our next sun, moon, and stars"? Thank goodness it turned out to be Eric Bledsoe. Bravo Ryan. Bravo.

I didn't catapult him to his current triumphal glory; that was Ryan. Blame him.

I'm just giving the man his due. I'm tired of all the negativity. It's time to be positive about something.

i posted in the other thread about this... i think the contract was a bit high but i'm more or less okay with it. one of my favorite quotes from my favorite comic strip, calvin and hobbes, sums this up rather elegantly: "a good compromise leaves both parties upset." (or something to that degree)

it was a compromise between the two parties, rich paul still managed a fair bit of negative PR for his client even though he managed to score a contract, which is apparent in the mixed (and mostly negative) reactions we have on the board. but i'm ready to move on. this contract has been a fairly major saga going back to my early days as a suns fan (KJ/chambers era). yeah, we lost joe johnson and mcdyess etc, but none of those situations dragged out for as long as this one did. i'm ready to move on and look at the team we have on the court, rather than focus more on who won and who lost in the negotiation game.

so, dragic, bledsoe, and thomas! here's hoping that the three of them (with other back court talent to boot) will divide up the minutes enough that nobody gets injured, and we maintain excellent health deep into the season. i wouldn't be terribly upset if all 3 of them get about 30 min per game and all 3 are still fresh during playoffs.

i'm more worried about the 4 and 5 positions.

i cautiously hopeful that we might move some of our assets for a more dependable big man, though i'm still willing to give len a chance.

Well, one thing we can all agree on, the new Suns aren't afraid to spend some money.

The funny thing is this is the same contract Joe Johnson got after he left us.
