Pop wouldn't be Pop without Duncan. Pop has done a good job keeping that team competitive for so long but lets be honest. That is much easier when you have the best power forward that has ever played the game on your team.

Bobster, I think (at one point anyway) that the Suns had like the 4th best record all-time historically in the NBA.
As a fan, would you rather take a perennial playoff contender (though maybe not championship contender) over a team that occasionally rebuilds (tanks) for (hopefully) a great draft pick?
The caveat I guess being that these things aren't done in a vacuum, so to speak, and that you aren't guaranteed a transcendent/generational talent in every draft.
But I dunno, I think back to the many years where we were good enough to get into the playoffs, but it seemingly came at the cost of (again, hopefully) getting a good draft pick.

I think I would go for a guy like Kevin Ollie. He seems like he can demand the respect of our very young roster, but also be a coach that isn't so stubborn he couldn't grow and evolve into a really great coach.

I don't know if he is versatile enough to mold his style to a team. It isn't easy, and not everyone can play the way you used to play... Hornacek has learnt that the hard way.
I would be OK with a rookie coach over someone that has been through the ringer a few times and is a washout. But I just don't follow the league closely enough to know who really are the smart ones learning their craft.

I am not sure how it could work with him signing this year as associate head coach with the Bulls, but I really like Jim Boylen. He has a great credentials. He has coached under Popovich, Izzo, Heathcote, Vogel, Tomjanovich, and now Hoiberg. He is known for his defensive coaching. He has also done well as a shooting coach. Some articles say you can credit the Spurs shooting style to him. Including both FG and 3pt improvements to Parker, Leonard, Belinelli, Mills, and Green. He has been to the finals several times and has 3 rings. He has been in charge of recruiting, scouting, game preparation, player skill development, practice preparation, teaching perimeter players, positioning, shooting, recognition, video room, head coaching, and assistant coaching. He has almost 30 years of coaching experience. He has ridiculous blue collar work ethic, he is hard nosed, he has excelled working with big men earlier in his career and now put together a nice track record with perimeter players. I love the way he handles the media very Pop like. Players that have worked with him say that they find him loyal. The only drawback I see is I am not sure what his offensive style really is although he seems like he is not afraid to let rookies play. I think that will be important for us. If he picks up the fast pace stuff Hoiberg likes to do this season then maybe he could be a good defensive hybrid coach for us next? Any thoughts?
