I mostly like the current Heat roster, though I wish they would let Dragic run the offense more, and they need much more 3-point shooting. I like seeing Dragic and Green (and Amare!) do well there. I mostly root for former Suns on their new teams, other than guys like M******f M****s. I do want them to take a slide so that pick becomes valuable, though.

How much more enjoyable would it have been to watch the Phoenix Suns for the last 6 years if we had given Amare that $100 Million contract and kept that 2010 group together?
I know he went down with injury and is a shell of his former self, but I highly doubt our record would be any worse and we would have been far more watchable.
I said at the time that the contract was horrible, due to his knees, but I doubted that Sarver had the ability to replace him and we still do not have even a half ass replacement.
Since Sarver has purchased this team we have been on a consistent slide to oblivion after his first year of ownership. All the management, coaches and players are long gone. This is why I no longer trust anything he does, like hiring a totally unproven coach in Watson. I don't care if we was getting blood transfusions from John Wooden.
I also have joined INFO on questioning anything that McDonough does.

I agree with this. I don't know if I can trust McDonough to build a team to win a championship. They keep trying to swing for the fences with a short fix when they really aren't ready for that yet.

Exactly. Well, the keep trying to swing for the fences, but end up check swinging nearly every time. It is extremely difficult to watch.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.
The problem is the plan B. They're trying to set themselves up for the big get but in doing so are failing to build a cohesive team in case the big get doesn't happen. Nothing illustrated that more than this season. This off season only has 1 whale who is either going to stay put or go to L.A. / Miami. That should mean we are better positioned than last Summer when we lost out on LMA.

I assume you were being sarcastic a bit, since always trying to swing for the fences means you strike out a ton. And if you aren't trying to get on base, you are screwed for your long-term strategy. We need a long-term, realistic strategy.

We are better positioned this year, I agree with that. I still hold out hope that the long term plan is a little more solid.
We are still a long ways away from competing with the likes of OKC, GS and Cleveland. The Suns need to build a better balanced and deep roster, with the top of it having MVP level players. I can't see them having an MVP type player on the roster currently, but hopefully the draft surprises me this year. Still think they are a couple years away from starting to compete or getting to the playoffs.

That is the thing. Nobody on this team is even close to getting a single vote for MVP. And if you don't have one of those guys, you aren't competing for a ring. We keep propping Booker up and piling ridiculous expectation on the teenager (and it would be amazing if he becomes an MVP level talent for us), but we are bare right now. And like we have talked about before, we are no longer a premiere FA destination. And, also like we have shown before, you need to draft your MVP as trades/FA signings of them are very, very rare. And the 4th pick in this draft isn't getting a guy that will be an MVP in 5 years. So we really need a long-term plan.

Scary thing is, I think McD really believes in his plan and the roster and Sarver has bought in as well. We may be looking at at least another 2 years of this, when McD should be on notice this year.

I've thought this many times as well. Nash could have at least went out being a Sun and maybe still having playoff team similar to Dirk.
Plus I think the Suns training staff could have done a better job with Amare than the Knicks.

I agree. I would have much preferred it to what we got. Hedo, Warrick, Childress anyone?

It was the right move to not extend Amare, and we traded Nash probably a year or two late. That said, what we have done instead of those moves has been pretty awful. If I knew we were going to do this, I probably would be in favor of going the old route.

I don't regret letting Amare or Nash go. I think we completely dodged a bullet with that Amare $100m+ contract, and Nash fell off almost the second we traded him. Good decisions, both.
I do wish we had kept one of Robin Lopez or Marcin Gortat. I do wish (strongly) that we had not traded for Brandon Knight. I do wish we had not signed Isiah Thomas and allowed him to help sabotage our chemistry. I do wish we hadn't relegated Goran Dragic to a backup / useless role and made him want out. On and on.
Our failures above don't mean that we would be better off with some washed-up Amare and a just-retired-as-a-Sun Nash and no draft picks and no assets. In that path, we have no Booker, no Knight, no Warren, no #4 pick, etc. No thank you.

I think you are assuming we would have been a better team. I disagree. I just think we would have been more fun to watch while sucking.

AASE will have a break-out season and make us all eat our words. Mark it down, in green.

Pretty sure there isn't a green enough font. It would have to be Orion green.
