He was #71, and #16 among centers (and 3 of them are really PFs--Jackson Jr, Wood, and Olynyk). That's middle of the pack for starting centers--not some atrocious ranking like you make it out to be. And you act like guards don't/shouldn't get to the line as much as big men...it's actually the opposite. In those top 71, there are 16 centers and 12 PF, whereas there are 33 guards. In fact, 5 of the top 9 are point guards.
This is the ONE time I will actually jump in to defend Ayton.
There are MANY times during a game that he is most definitely fouled. It's blatant, but it stems from 2 factors. I think that Aytons size, subconsciously or not, leads to the refs swallowing their whistle towards him. The second is that Ayton himself plays PASSIVELY. I have yet to see a ref that rewards weak shots.
If he would just go INTO the defender, and not away, he would get soo many more FT's.
I accept that he isn't Amare; he could be Jokic tho. I wouldn't call Jokic overly aggressive, but he at least goes thru the defender.

Ya I think Ayton’s tendency to avoid contact on most plays does lead to refs assuming he wasn’t fouled on those 50/50 calls that they will assume a guy like Giannis or Embiid was fouled on.

This is nonsense. Mat Ishbia just said the other day that Frank Vogel is involved in making the decisions. And he has pushed hard to keep Ayton. And they are keeping Ayton. Period.Of course, the Suns’ aggressive front office and new owner operate in a different realm than Vogel, one where projecting improvement via roster changes is the focus.
We saw the contrast when Vogel — quite genuinely — spoke at his introductory press conference about the excitement of preparing to coach a team with point guard Chris Paul on it. Paul was traded for Bradley Beal soon after.

We are 5 minutes away from exactly 1 year since shams reported we matched the Ayton offer sheet he signed with Indy…not reporting anything (obviously), but Ayton loses his no trade clause and the restriction on trading him to Indy is basically over.
