You guys talk about Tucker. I guess it doesn't apply to Lawson. He has had a couple DUIs this year.carey wrote:Hmmm. That's a big get for Houston. Though he will take the ball out of Harden's hands some.
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

I don't see anyone saying we should have traded for him.Superbone wrote:You guys talk about Tucker. I guess it doesn't apply to Lawson. He has had a couple DUIs this year.carey wrote:Hmmm. That's a big get for Houston. Though he will take the ball out of Harden's hands some.

Re: Around the League: The Offseason
The Rockets stole him. Lawson is a really good player and I knew some team would get him for peanuts. The Knicks and even the Sixers should have tried to trump that offer.
Re: Around the League: The Offseason
But he's an absolute mess. More of a mess than Tucker. More of a mess than either of the Morris twins. Houston is really rolling the dice, albeit for a low cost (I still like Nick Johnson,) but this thing could blow up on them.Shabazz wrote:The Rockets stole him. I guess it's folly to guess how deep his issues run based off the two DUIs and other reports; He could be a huge mess. He could be a guy that made 2 bad mistakes and got caught both times. Either way, the Rockets probably did their due diligence and they didn't give up much. If Lawson flames out there, he's got one more year on his contract after this one and they can stretch provision him without a ton of cap impact.

Yeah. It's a dice roll. But they're probably banking on a more stable, winning environment helping him with his issues.carey wrote:But he's an absolute mess. More of a mess than Tucker. Re: Around the League: The Offseason
That is a huge get for Houston. PG was a position of real weakness for them last year, and Lawson is way better than what they were trotting out before.

Re: Around the League: The Offseason
Morey is having a great offseason.
Keeps every worthy player and does it at more than decent money for what is going on.
Drafts Dekker-Montrezl (plus Woods, maybe best UFA of the year, along with Harrison).
Clears logjams.
If Lawson doesn't blow they have upgraded their weakest position for a pitance. Outside of adding a real star they have answered basically all the questions, and on paper it looks really good for a team that went to the WCF last season (although one could consider it a fluke).
Check this out:
Lawson-Beverly-Harden
Ariza-KJ McDaniels-Dekker/TJones
DMo-TJones/Dekker
D12-Montrezl-Wood
By the way, I wanted so bad to see Llull in the NBA.

Re: Around the League: The Offseason
The Nuggets cut their losses and got something in return. A late 1stR, a young prospect and filler is decent, unlike what it could seem at first sight.
I agree the Lakers could have taken a shot at him, given their other moves on what looks like win now veterans.
I don't see the 76rs though. Lawson became a cancer in Denver when they started to lose. His attitude is not goint to change playing for what is universally considered as the league laughing stock. If I were Hinkie I would have stayed away as well. That franchise needs high character and experience, not DUIs.

Yeah. Shipped out some spare parts & a lotto protected pick for a very good but troubled player. Will likely pay off big time. While I'm not a fan of Dekker scoring Harrell that late was a good get.

I like Dekker at PF in small ball lineups. He is compared to Hayward but. The body is similary gifted for a white guy (like Hezonja's) but has nowhere near his ability with the ball in the hands, and is even farther as a shooter.

Whats Lawson's contract look like? That's the only risk incase he gets in trouble again. Even if he does, Houston still has Pat Beverly, so it's not like It's Lawson or nothing.
Denver gets substantially more if they deal him at the deadline or on draft night IMO. Sacramento was trying hard for him before they landed Rondo.

“Kobe had said (after the play) I wasn’t hugged enough as a child,” Bell recalled. “My mom kind of found him after the instance and we had beat them and offered him a hug in the bowels of the Phoenix arena. She really feels a part of that story.”

Lawson makes about 12M in 15-16, 13M 16-17.
Agreed that the market to move him was substantialy better before. Maybe they didn't want to trade him back then, or nobody was meeting their price.

Really? That's kind of like what Hedo did when he was traded here isn't it? He must have really wanted out of Denver.INFORMER wrote:https://twitter.com/ZachLowe_NBA/status/623241514806808576

John Jenkins to the Mavs. Good pick up.

That makes it even better for the Rockets. Not only they don't have to give up flexibility, they actually gained it! They got themselves a nice trading chip regardless of what happens on the court. Outstanding.

Re: Around the League: The Offseason
I think the Hawks have made a mistake this offseason by trading for Hardaway Jr. I would have kept Jenkins and used the #15 pick. A number of available players made sense for them, even if it is just for depth purposes. Besides Oubre, Hollis Jefferson, Dekker or Portis, for instance.Shabazz wrote:John Jenkins to the Mavs. Good pick up.

The Celtics felt threatened when Charlotte put together the Zeller/Kaminsky/Hawes frontcourt so they added David Lee to their Zeller/Olynyk/Jerebko troika.
Well, the Hornets just went out and trumped them with a Hansbrough. Tyler Hansbrough.
