I haven't followed him enough. From the couple of tournament games I did see I felt like he was a good rebounder and around the basket guy, but maybe not all that athletic and he didn't seem to have range. Which is not necessarily a knock but I also don't see him as much more than a Tristan Thompson on the high end and maybe a Nick Collison on the low end. Please shoot me down if I'm wrong.

I like him at 12-13, not 3-6.

Who at 5/6 is better than him?

He feels like a finished product to me... which is not a bad thing, but I haven't seen much ability to protect the rim or elite athleticism. I do understand that basketball acumen or basketball IQ or whatever is as much a talent as the ability to rise up and dunk a basketball while performing multiple acrobatics, but at this point I want a 4 that can help protect the rim and the pick and roll... I saw Len trying to go to the 3 point line against Motiejunas in the Rockets game and it wasn't pretty.

Will we have a new thread on the draft or should we keep piling on here?

Had a couple of busy weeks and finally had some time to catch up on reading. From this article, I kind of like Gary Payton II, say somewhere in the second round, or maybe Ullis if he slips.

I am not arguing with that take. I am just trying to understand the rationale of not taking him at 5/6, but wanting him at 12. To me, that only makes sense if you know of the 6 guys that are better than him not projected to go 1-5.

Yeah I totally understand Indy. I'm not a college bball expert, the only exposure I've had to it had been a handful of march madness games, so I'm simply regurgitating what I thought I saw during those games and asking for validation, more so than to assert any point in particular. I don't know where he fits, I guess I'm just surprised that what I see as a solid rotational guy could be ranked 5th on NBADraft.net's big board. Feels like a bit of a shallow draft.

I sit corrected. It's a mixed bag, but there were quite a bit great players at 5.

I remember that we'd had this discussion before. I think tho it's not too much to ask to expect that the 5th pick yields a starter quality player. And that's what I wonder, does the younger Sabonis have that skillset?

I don't know. I've said many times I don't really watch college ball outside of the last few games of the tournament. And I wasn't asking you directly, or being a dick. I'm really interested to find out who is realistically better than he is after the top 5 guys are off the board.

Understood. I never thought your questions were personal. I also don't watch college ball so I don't know what those guys like Murray, Rabb, etc. are capable of. I saw all the games after the sweet 16, and I decided I don't like Brice Johnson's prospects as much. That's all I can contribute to this conversation.

Tim Kempton loves Brice Johnson, but I haven't seen a single indication that he knows how to evaluate talent.

Yeah. I saw Brice Johnson in action and I think most of the games I saw were him against inferior competition. The only time he went up against someone his own size, in Danial Ochefu in the biggest stage of them all, he had decent stats but didn't make any shots after contact. And Ochefu isn't even projected to go in the second round. I am not saying Johnson won't be able to adjust in the NBA, just don't think his gaudy college numbers will really translate, from the eye test.
