I’m surprised David Blatt is hardly getting mentioned. Guy was a very good head coach had LeBron not sabatoged him.

I don't think that's the kind of coach we need, somebody who is so young and raw and lacks experience. We need somebody who knows how to take our team to the next level. Stack would be the kind of coach for our team the past 1-2 years when we just needed to keep the young guys motivated and had no expectations of winning anything.
However, you also don't want to miss out on the next big thing. What if he explodes into a great coach and we were too scared to pull the trigger. At least interview him. It's kind of like the draft, sometimes you have to pick based on potential.

I don't know who would take him seriously. He was mocked and ridiculed on a national stage, had some pretty huge blunders, and got caught up trying to convince everyone what a great coach he is whether than going out and just coaching well.

He has been given a lot of credit for developing the Raptors young players and has had great results coaching, I mean, a G-League team, but that is coaching experience. I guess defense and ball movement are the calling cards of the Raptors 905. I think it is at least worth bringing him in for an interview.
Good recommendation.

Interesting read on him here: http://www.nba.com/article/2017/02/14/j ... aptors-905

I have a (probably unfair) bias against former-player coaches who give off the old school vibe. The Byron Scott-types who think everything was better "back in my day." Stackhouse gives me that feeling.

To add some fuel to the Jay Wright fire:

It feels like the offseason has started already.

Two guys I would unequivocally hate to coach this team would be Byron Scott and Mike Brown.

The Raptors are one of the most advanced teams in the league when it comes to data and analytics, so I wouldn't worry about that too much with Stackhouse.

Kevin Durant was on Bill Simmons's podcast, and he gushed about how great Mike Brown is. I just don't get it. Maybe the guy is just great with people and makes the players feel good. He's a dreadful coach, but everybody seems to love him. I would have a heart attack if he became the Suns head coach.

To be fair to Brown, he's only had a losing record once and led GS to like a 10-0 playoff record when Kerr was out. Not sure why people think he's a bad coach, yeah the LA thing was a mess, but he did win the division the year prior. I'm sure spending time in the Warriors org hasn't done anything but help him.

He's had winning records, but he's largely coached great teams. If you look at most years of most teams he has coached, they have underperformed. He's the master at taking what should be a title team and making them flame out in the playoffs and/or end up with fewer wins than they ought to have.

To be more specific, I have heard/read a lot that Brown doesn't coach offense well, that he's bad at managing egos or personality conflicts on a team, and that he doesn't make good in-game adjustments. He's been criticized on-air by Jeff Van Gundy and others. I have also heard that he doesn't watch much film, doesn't care much about stats or analytics, and generally doesn't put in the work to be a great coach.

Here's some discussion about him on Reddit:

Even though I am not a fan of Mike Brown there probably is no one better equipped to be a head coach in the NBA than Mike Brown.

I have not liked him forever but he really checks all the boxes other than likability.

1. I believe he started out in the Spurs organization with Popovich
2. He became a head coach and was a well reguarded defensive coach in Cleveland that could not coach offense.
3. He ran into the Magic Johson factor in LA and still could not coach offense.
4. He became lead assitant in GS and probably is far more rounded as a head coach.

I might hate the decision to hire him but I expect in the end I could become a fan, if we start winning basketball games.

My dog Sammy can lead GS to a 10-0 playoff record. Doesn’t mean my dog will get interviews for head coaching positions anywhere.

Mike Brown's got the "I'm a basketball purist, I coach defense" BS attitude. He was an assistant under Pop and Brown and thinks he's Pop and Brown. He talked shit about 7SOL when he was coaching LeBron in Cleveland, now he's living the good life under Kerr in GS. And he acted like an ass at his press conferences when he was head coach last year. He's a dickhead.

Sammy needs to hire the right agency or agent.

It is funny because everyone fell in love with Luke Walton after he took the helm for that ready made team.. Seems like a bit of a double standard.
