Ok, looking at the teams that have cap space to make a S&T happen, we’ve got Detroit, Indy, SA, or Orlando….what would trades look like with them?
Detroit could be something like Isaiah Stewart, Hamidou Diallo and #5. Maybe you can do Bey and #5.
Indy would be Turner and #6
SA would be like Poeltl and #9…I think I’d need Primo or Keldon Johnson but doubt SA does that. Maybe no #9 and just Poeltl and Johnson?
Orlando would be like WCJ and Anthony. They wouldn’t just give us the #1 pick, right? I’d take Jabari straight up without question.
None of those really seem great unless you love someone in the 5/6 range of the draft. Gonna be a very interesting off-season.
Ayton was a big difference maker at times but his disappearing act and soft play led to some tough losses this year.
I like Indy’s Turner + pick. That pick would be a nice piece to grab another veteran bucket maker.

I just hope the Suns FO gives this some time and doesn't make a stupid rash decision while emotions are still high from our loss.

Our better path would be to deal CP3 and attach Cam J as bait to improve the team toward sustainable success

Again, please point out a deal that involves Chris Paul and Cam J and gets us back a player that makes us better (that the other team would even consider)?

Bickley with some rumors there was friction between CP and Monty, "something of a falling out".

Thanks for sharing those, Shel.
If we have learned only 2 things about James Jones as GM, they are these:
1) He wants to draft James Jones clones
2) He will never tell you anything close to what he is actually thinking (just in the middle of this season he applied for a DPE, got it approved, then used the money to bring in Holiday and NOBODY knew any of that happened until we signed him)

Meh. I am sure they go at each other when things are not going well. I mean Redick said there were so many times he wanted to just punch Chris right in the face, right before he said he is one of his most-loved teammates ever.

PS==I do think that Monty defers to Chris way too much. He talked about it a lot last year. About how he was too controlling in NO the first time. And how this time he has to let Chris be Chris. But 37 year old Chris Paul is not 25 year old Chris Paul.

Yesss, please do this. Sign Rubio, sign another bench forward, max Ayton, call it a day. If Ayton isn't working out, trade him after December when the BYC rule lifts. Good flexibility, don't overreact to one bad game/series.

Yeah, it was obvious we lost that game 7 due to Landry Shamet and nothing else.
Give me a break. One of the few guys that actually made some shots. 3-4 from three.

I thought Shamet had a really good playoffs. It makes me think that he just needed more time and a bigger/clearer role to give us better performance. I want him here next season.

This is probably the smartest plan…But it’s a lot more fun to discuss crazy scenarios haha…
I do think we absolutely need to look into moving Ayton, but learning about the BYC rules makes me feel better about waiting on that trade. We’d be incredibly limited in sign and trades.

A move I’d look at:
Saric/Shamet/Payne/Craig for Gordon/Wood/Martin Jr.
At least 1 1st, but probably 2 we’d have to throw in.
Paul/Booker/Bridges/Wood/Ayton
Gordon/Johnson/Crowder
That’s a solid top 8. You’d need to add a backup 1 and 5, but honestly Holiday and McGee or Biyombo would work. You’d still have a potential Ayton trade, but now you have a replacement C already on roster.
I do this move if it requires 1 1st, but 2 1sts seems like a lot for a 34 year old expensive backup guard and a talented but expiring PF/C with perhaps some attitude concerns.
Take Wood out and a Payne/Saric/2nd for Gordon seems doable as well. I would hesitate on giving a 1st in that deal.

The right move has always been to match any offer for Ayton because they cannot let him go for nothing, and a sign and trade will likely be too difficult to work out.
I think cooler heads will prevail in the coming weeks and Ayton won't refuse to re-sign with the Suns when they match an offer. As much as it bothers a lot of us, he seems to really only care about getting paid as much as possible. I also wouldn't consider him the vengeful type (otherwise we'd see it on the court..), so as long as he's getting his money, he should likely commit to the rest of the team.
This will make for an interesting training camp when the team looks around at the rest of the locker room. If Ayton isn't showing signs of maturity in his approach and development, there will be a real chance of some internal strife.
One thing to consider will be the timeline for his RFA offers. If the Suns know internally they'll match any offer, they can hold other teams hostage by waiting until the last minute to match. That might dissuade some teams from tying up their free agent cap space and missing out their plan B.

My dream is to get KD with a re-signed Ayton, CamJ and 2 firsts if he tells Brooklyn he wants out? Or do we need more salary because of BYC? Who can blackmail KD?
I don't want to go forward with 100M/year wrapped up in a 37-38 year old PG, Book, and Ayton, plus another 20 for Mikal. You can kind of survive an injury to one offensive star/creator if you have 1.5 more. We only have Book. Mikal didn't turn the corner we had hoped, and Ayton can't be counted on.
