I keep seeing people put Ryan Dunn at PF. He is not a PF. He is a SF. Please, Suns, don’t ruin Dunn by making him play the 4, just because you traded for Dillon Brooks. Bench Brooks (and Green) if you have to.
I think it will be based on matchups. Some nights Brooks will take the 4, others it will be Dunn.
True. My spidey senses are telling me we are gonna draft Carter Bryant or Collin Murray-Boyles at 10 on Wednesday, with them probably playing most of the minutes at 4, with like you said before, Ryan and Brooks playing the 4 according to matchups as well. Even Oso too.
I think the plan with Ryan is to let him sit behind Brooks for this year with him let him develop a little more before taking a starting spot next year. Brooks will be expiring contract next season and I would imagine we’ll sell him off for draft assets or something like that.
Dunn already started the majority of our games last season. You can’t just bench him this season. For Dillon Brooks of all people. Ugh.
He needs plenty of playing time to develop. If anyone has earned a starting role it’s him.
Yeah, you can bench him. I love Dunn but Dillon Brooks is the better player right now. I think many on here are letting their person feelings get in the way with their opinion of Brooks. Hes absolutely a solid starter. Also I’m not suggesting to pull a Bud and sit Dunn at the end of the bench or something like that. I fully expecting him to get a consistent 20-25 minutes a night playing various positions coming off the bench. I just don’t see any negatives when it comes to his development if he comes off the bench vs starting. He absolutely deserved to be starting last year but a lot of that is due to our utterly incompetent roster building under Ishbia.
I don’t think Brooks is an apart of our future core but he has the potential to be an interesting trade chip for us either at the deadline or next offseason as an expiring contract, so it’s in our best interest that he starts and plays well.

Dunn should not be handed a starting spot until he can prove to not be a massive offensive liability on most nights.

Just like I wanted for Okogi last year, I want Dunn and Oso locked in the gym all summer working on their shots. Both could be solid contributors if their offense improved.

I’m fine bringing Dunn off the bench if we’re playing someone better than him. Feels like Booker is still the only guaranteed starter next year. I’m not handing a starting spot to Green or Brooks either, though I imagine Brooks will win one.
I’d bring Green off the bench as 6th man, but I doubt we do that…still hoping we move him before he’s officially a sun though.
Grayson and/or Royce need to be moved still. Hopefully we can get a starting quality 4 or 5 from trading them.
I don’t know what to think about Beal….It’s truly kinda impressive how much money we have tied up in the SG position. Our top 3 salaries and 4 of the top 5 are all SGs…and the only other one is a sf/sg(Brooks). So basically all 5 are…#6 is Royce O’Neale…we’re seriously only paying SGs right now…insane

We're over the projected salary cap with just Booker, Beal, Green, and Allen.

Every team in the league operates over the cap.
They can waive Martin's unguaranteed contract for next year and get pretty close to being back under the second apron.

Next Monday is the deadline to waive Martin. Reports are that we will not waive Richards before his guarantee deadline (Sunday).

Sure, but we're definitely the only team that's over the cap with just 4 shooting guards.

I have absolutely no trust in Carter Bryant as a lottery pick. Dude came off the bench for a mediocre Arizona team and is a complete prospect, raw, master of none but does a little bit of everything. Major bust potential at 10.

As unhappy as I am with the shitshow that this franchise has become...I feel strangely invigorated by the recent turn of events.
No more Durant being unwilling to play team ball. We're going to get a bunch of young guys hustling for wins if we do it right. I would actually enjoy a 35 win team like this.
Make sure you keep James Jones for the draft pick selections. He's shown to be amazing at selecting good role players with late picks.

I'm guessing Jones is not involved in much at this point. They'll be announcing his departure soon IMO.

Would be a shame. Selecting good to fantastic role players with late draft picks has definitely been his strength.

Our roster makes no sense at all. We have an entire salary cap's worth of contracts all at the SG/swing spot. We just traded our best (or 2nd best) player for two players that play the same spot as the two current best players on the team (Book and Dunn). We have no PG, PF, or C who is worth spitting on. Our whole roster is SGs and SFs.
If we acquired Jalen Green just to trade him, great job guys, 10/10. Now every team that wants to negotiate with us knows we have to trade him, so they'll low-ball us. Don't acquire players that don't fit your current team!!! Don't acquire players just to trade them!
Also, the current Suns FO didn't get the memo that chucker bad-defense SGs are the most low-valued position in the NBA today. Every team has some guy like that who is 6'4" and can score 20 and play shitty defense on bad FG%. Teams can't wait to trade away these kinds of players. But we are stockpiling them, because I guess we're just smarter than the rest of the league.
And Dillon Brooks is going to be our grit-and-grind guy? Okay. This is a sick joke. Guy likes to get in the face of much better players and try to get under their skin, but they quickly realize he can't back up his trash talk and they completely clown him. He's a pretty good defender but he also commits a bunch of fouls and flagrants and tries to hurt people. And did I mention that he plays the same position as Ryan Dunn, who I want to be starting? Why did we acquire this guy again?
People are in this thread saying we couldn't have gotten much better for Durant. Okay, fine, let the fucker walk. $50m cap space, that's your haul for Durant. Given our situation with Beal and the 2nd apron, that is a pretty decent haul! Would give us room to sign more players to help us out. Or maybe he'd re-sign with us and end his career here. Not the best outcome but maybe better than the puu-puu platter of oops-all-SGs and SFs we're about to watch.
Mark my words: We will not make the playoffs for the next 7+ years. We're going to be an irrelevant team through 2031, maybe 2032, and further. Once we start getting our own picks back, maybe we can start to recover. But we are going to be a laughingstock franchise through the rest of the 2020s, easily.

Mori is 1000000000% right…. When everyone in the league knows you need to move SGs you’ve screwed your negotiating power. We’ve shown time and time again that we cave to the other teams demands and have zero balls to do the hard thing. They’re telegraphing their desperation for making a trade and teams eat that shit up.
7 yeaars of no playoffs sounds about right…. Maybe more because I have a feeling this ownership can still find more ways to destroy this team.
