I would love to know how James Jones intends to build a winning team. This team needs another star alongside Book. JJ played his career on winning teams with tons of talent, surely he knows he’ll have to make some bigger moves. This squad hasnt signed a star or made any big moves for years and years. Building through the draft has never worked for us before and apparently won’t in the near future. Any break this team has had came from trades or free agency (TC and KJ / Barkley / Kidd / Nash).

You forgot Amare and Marion.

I disagree. Most importantly, Tyler Johnson is an NBA player and Ryan Anderson is not. There's also no reason to have the roster set by the end of the summer. That's how teams dig themselves into a hole when it's clearly not working out by mid-December.

The roster may not be 'set' by the end of summer, but it better be a 'complete' roster, as in no apparent hole such as no PF/PG. Otherwise you are toast by the end of the first month and you have another lost season.

In order to achieve that goal, you need to use Tyler, be it by including him in a trade or by stretching him and creating relevant cap space (unless you manage to plain dump Warren+Jackson without taking any salary back, which seems doubtful). Otherwise all you have is Tyler and the MLE.

As for his game, TJ is average as hell so he doesn't make any difference to a team unless he is replacing a Gleague player. In the context of a trade, this average quality just doesn't matter; the allure to anyone would be his huge expiring contract (at least to anyone that is not 100% desperate for replacement level NBA talent,which was our case last year).

Really, for the purposes of building the Suns 2020 and beyond, I'd rather have the extra $5M.

Barbosa at #28 in 2003 was a big steal. Dragic at #45 in 2008 was a major steal. Bogdan Bogdanovic at #27 in 2013 was pretty good too.

You can build thru the draft but that sometimes requires a scouting dept.

He is a really low percentage player that turns it over a little too much. No thanks.

Really low? He was .46/.36/.78 last year. True Shooting of .581

Turnovers are high, but he spent a lot of time creating offense. He also averaged over 5 assists a game. I think he’d be even better with Booker sharing the load.

The injuries are too much for me at this point. The guy just can't stay healthy.

You missed my point. I never said the draft doesn't matter. Rather that only building your team through the draft wont work for us. Because right now, that’s where we are: our team is built around draft picks (Book, Warren, Ayton, JJ, Bridges). With a couple exceptions (Oubre, TJ). We need a big move here. We’re way overdue. Look how awful last year was.

Reading between the lines, Coby White is our guy.

We'll end up hating him by the end of the season. This is a weak draft past Morant. I think his closest comp is Elfrid Payton, and we let him walk. He's a bad fit next to Booker and especially Ayton.

"reading between the lines?" Pretty sure most outlets with supposed inside info have us taking him at 6. I think that is just reading the lines.

White can shoot it so the Payton comps aren't valid there. I still have concerns about his release point but he's got a jumper and his stepback can be pretty lethal. I like his size, his quickness, he can pass it and be a primary ballhandler. Not an 8apg guy but 4-5 should be easy for him. I just see a newer version of Jamal Crawford.

Agreed. Its been hard for me to see anything but Crawford or Brandon Knight. How is that what this team needs?
