4/$32Mil for Ariza from Houston? Guess they didn't learn last time. That's a really big overpay for him, but I think Washington will feel this loss big time. Porter was a total nonfactor last year. He better make big strides this off-season.

Re: Around the League: July 2014
I was listening to ESPN radio this morning and heard both the host and Stephen A Smith refer to Melo as a "top five player" and i wanted bash my radio.
Melo has had two good season in his career. One in which he played with Chauncey Billups, the other when he played with Jason Kidd. Both instances include a strong pass-first point guard who was man enough to tell him to get to his spots rather than do whatever he wants.
Besides that, he's wasted his talents taking contested 20 footers. He shoots an average percentage whereas Lebron, KD, MJ etc all shoot well above average (which makes them stars). He compensates his poor shooting by shooting a lot (and thus having a high ppg). He doesnt pass, but when he does its just as likely to end in a turnover.
He's a good rebounder but nothing spectacular. Heres a quick list of players I'd rather have on my team over Anthony (in no particular order):
1) Lebron
2) KD
3) Kevin Love
4) Chris Paul
5) Blake Griffin
6) Stephen Curry
7) James Harden
8) Dwight Howard
9) Goran Dragic
10) Eric Bledsoe
11) Kawhi Leonard
12) Tim Duncan
13) Anthony Davis
14) Paul George
15) Russel Westbrook

Re: Around the League: July 2014
4 years 32 isn't an overpay, and less than what he was supposedly commanding. I don't know what Washington was or wasn't offering but they're dumb to let him walk for that, unless he didn't really want to be there.
Re: Around the League: July 2014
Agree to disagree. He had a career year last year, but is usually a 40% shooter from the field and low 30s from 3. He shot over 40% from 3 for the first time last year. I just don't know that I would have taken him to the bank after a contract year performance given 10 seasons of proof that he's not usually that player. Hopefully it works out for them. Given the option of paying Ariza $8Mil or Parsons $15Mil? I'd probably pay Ariza too and I am a big Parsons fan. I just don't know that that was the only play here, you know?ShelC wrote:4 years 32 isn't an overpay, and less than what he was supposedly commanding. Edit: I know he's being paid for his defense as well. Which may be the reason he got so much. Lord knows Harden can't guard elite perimeter players. Maybe they'll be pretty formidable on defense with Beverly and Ariza out there and Howard backing them up to erase mistakes.

Fun fact, Melo's avg shot distance for his career is 11.8 ft.
LBJ 12.2
KD 13.8

LBJ 12.2
KD 13.8

Re: Around the League: July 2014
Big overpay? Its actually a very reasonable deal for Ariza, especially considering he was sought after by many teams. Nice work by morey.carey wrote:4/$32Mil for Ariza from Houston? “Kobe had said (after the play) I wasn’t hugged enough as a child,” Bell recalled. “My mom kind of found him after the instance and we had beat them and offered him a hug in the bowels of the Phoenix arena. She really feels a part of that story.”
Re: Around the League: July 2014
A guy like Ariza isn't getting less than 8. He defends, hits 3s. He's a 43% FG shooter and his worse years came in Houston because he was playing like he was a 1st/2nd option. I think he's found his niche now and playing on a good team, he'll benefit. And the deal decreases during the 4 years, starting at 8.6 and ending at 7.4.
Re: Around the League: July 2014
Ariza is a better player than Frye or Avery Bradley who got the same money, so I think Houston did ok, not great, but ok.

Re: Around the League: July 2014
Yeah, I guess I haven't really adjusted to the new contracts. I wouldn't pay any of those guys $8Mil. They all seem like $5Mil a year players to me.TheOriginalOriginal wrote:Ariza is a better player than Frye or Avery Bradley who got the same money, so I think Houston did ok, not great, but ok.
Also, Ariza really only turned himself into a 3-point shooter last year. We'll see if he keeps it up. He'll be at best the 3rd option so maybe it's a good fit.

He could probably sign a year at a time because he's never leaving again. No chance.carey wrote:https://twitter.com/JeffZillgitt/status/488078485802323969 James only signing for 2 years in Cleveland.

Re: Around the League: July 2014
Ariza at 4/32 is only defensible using this 2014 mindset, but I wouldn't want to be the one paying that. Morey reacted quickly to the two hits he just received, but I don't see a better team once the dust settles.

Seeing all this money makes me wonder why the GSW seem to prefer maxing Thompson over Love. I don't get that at all. Klay is 100% gonna get a max offer.

Re: Around the League: July 2014
Well there's a 3way being worked on with Warriors getting picks, Wolves getting Tristan Thompson and Klay Thompson and Love going to Cleveland.
Re: Around the League: July 2014
Wait, no way the Warriors are dumping Klay for just picks. You sure Waiters or Wiggins isn't going to GSW?ShelC wrote:Well there's a 3way being worked on with Warriors getting picks, Wolves getting Tristan Thompson and Klay Thompson and Love going to Cleveland.

Cant see why GSW would facilitate a Love going elsewhere deal by selling off Klay. Zero sense. Waiters and picks surely wouldn't be enough to sway GSW and CLE has no intentions of moving Wiggins.
Seems like a msg board fantasy trade.
