The Miami Heat traded guard Zoran Dragic to the Boston Celtics on Monday, along with a 2020 second-round draft pick and cash considerations, in exchange for a protected 2019 draft pick.

The Celtics will also be waiving Zoran:

http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/ ... er=ya5nbcs
The Celtics were at the right place at the right time, getting the Heat’s 2020 second-round pick in exchange for taking Zoran Dragic and his $1,706,250 salary.

Turns out, the trade was even better for Boston than it appeared.

Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe:

Essentially, the Celtics got a 2020 second-rounder for nothing. They don’t even have to pay Dragic.

There’s even a very slight chance a team claims Dragic on waivers, and Boston could use its cash from Miami as pure profit.

So much for "Goran is ok with it, since his brother would be getting more playing time in Boston..."

Atlanta Hawks forward Mike Scott was arrested in Banks County, Ga., and charged with felony possession of marijuana and possession of a Schedule 1 drug, MDMA, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported on Thursday. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the Hawks are aware of this but have no comment yet.

Scott, 27, was arrested with his 20-year-old brother, Antonn, and police officers had to chase their vehicle at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning, according to AccessWDUN's Rob Moore.

I liked Mike Scott as a player too...

It's not Javaris Crittenton, but still could be a career derailed due to stupidity.

The Boston Celtics offered four first-round picks to the Charlotte Hornets for the chance to move up from No. 16 to No. 9. The Celtics were targeting Justise Winslow while the Hornets were settled on taking Frank Kaminsky.

The Celtics offered the 16th pick, No. 15 (acquired in a prearranged contingency deal with the Atlanta Hawks), one unprotected future Brooklyn pick, and a future first-rounder from either the Memphis Grizzlies or Minnesota Timberwolves.

Some members of the Hornets' front office wanted to do the deal with the Celtics, but Michael Jordan preferred Kaminsky over first rounders outside the lottery.

“If it was such a no-brainer for us, why would another team want to do it?” said Rich Cho.
This is just insane. MJ turned down 4 picks, including an UNPROTECTED pick from a Brooklyn team in free fall, just to take Kaminsky?

Edit: And what the hell was Ainge thinking?
Ainge said that about himself afterwards. Admitted now that he is distanced from the negotiations that he is glad it did not go through. But Ainge wanted Winslow, and really believied in his abilities. Winslow might prove he is actually worth it.

GS traded recently acquired Wallace to the 76ers for recently acquired Jason Thompson.

I didn't even know the Warriors had Gerald Wallace. But Thompson could be useful for them. He seemed like a young stud PF in his early days in SAC. Don't know how he has been lately.

From the David Lee trade.

Very interesting. This might be a good reason why decisions made by committee are better than decisions made by a supreme poobah like Ainge, regardless how good.

That bounty for the #9 was maybe too much in abstract, but if you truly believe Winslow's case is like Pierce or George, you pull the trigger. I don't think Ainge was wrong at all. Maybe Olynyk or Sully could have been used instead of one of the picks to fill the role the tank will play for the Hornets.

Conversely, there is no way I turn that offer down if somehow I am not drafting Winslow myself. Kaminsky is much more than a shooter on offense, but at the time they still had Vonleh, who probably fits better alongside Jefferson. That PF-C rotation with Hawes-Kaminsky-Zeller-Jefferson looks so weak on D now.

Not a fan of most of the stuff Charlotte has done this summer.

Terrible news. Utah's core of Exum-Hayward-Favors-Gobert is so exciting and was already delivering, making the Jazz a nightmare on defense.

By the way, I thought Devin Booker would have been a killer pick for the Jazz instead of Lyles. He would have been exactly the type of guard to put between Exum and Hayward. I believe they dropped the soap here.
