Kinda makes the haul for Gobert last year look even more laughable.
Makes you wonder what Ainge could have gotten if he was running the Mavs.

What’s crazy is that I don’t even like Luka as a franchise cornerstone, and even I think it could be the worst trade in NBA history!

I don’t know. I think I’d have to demand that lone LAL first as well.

Just thinking out loud but does anyone think a LeBron trade could be on the cards and that the reason the Lakers brought in Luka was to appease their fanbase in the event of that happening? I just don't see LeBron and Luka complimenting each other but could see the Lakers trading LeBron to begin the process of putting the right pieces around Luka.

Just a thought.
I don't think the Lakers would trade Lebron unless he demanded it. I think this trade is less about "let's get rid of Lebron" and more about them starting to think ahead to the next era of the franchise once Lebron is gone in a year or two. If Lebron were still, say, 35, they would have talked to him before making this Luka deal to make sure he was okay with it. Now, they didn't even call him ahead of the trade, because Luka and Lebron will barely even overlap. Luka is the successor to Lebron much more than he is going to be a teammate of Lebron or adapt to Lebron. I don't think any of that is meant as a diss toward Lebron by the franchise, but they had to make this move to set themselves up for the next years after he is gone. What a crazy trade. Normally a team like theirs would be in for several down years after the Lebron/AD core moved on. But now they'll just be instantly refreshed and reloaded and ready to become an elite team again. Fucking Lakers.

This is what it looks like to get fleeced on both sides for a superstar.
To add to that,

Spurs traded Dejounte Murray to ATL and got.......four 1st rounders ?

Utah traded Rudy Gobert to MIN and got.......four 1st rounders ?

And Dallas gets "one" 1st rounder for Luka ????????

IF YOU WANNA CROWN 'EM, THEN CROWN THEIR ASS!

Nothing is guaranteed. Luka and LBJ will most likely be very good together but the roster still has major defensive shortcomings. And even with Luka to build around, the Lakers will face a lot of the issues the Mavs had with Luka being so ball dominant. That's not even taking into account the alleged (real?) issues around his conditioning. This could be a wake up call for Luka and he could really start to take his health and conditioning seriously, with help from LeBron. Or he can live the LA life and do what he's been doing but with a tan.

This has nothing to do with this year or LeBron. LeBron is off to the sunset. This is for the next 10 years

It's clear that Harrison's previous relationship with Davis factored into the deal. He wanted AD on the Mavs and got what he wanted at the expense of a potentially better deal elsewhere. But even with that, if you're ownership you can't allow that trade to go thru. Even if the money/extension was a factor, you have to press your GM to get more from the Lakers.

There’s a lot to this Doncic trade that we don’t know about and probably never will. I ain’t buying the “We needed defense” explanation.
