I think it depends on what Ayton we get. The Ayton that showed up in the playoffs was dreadful and does nothing for us. We’d be better off starting Eubanks. But if 2021 Playoffs Ayton or 2022 Vs Pels Ayton shows up, that’s a different story.
For me, if we can get a player we know can be a strong rotation guy that could be part of our closing 5, I pull the trigger. I just don’t know what Ayton we get, so I’d take a drop in ceiling for a more consistent player.
You are evaluating Ayton at his worst. Sure, it's possible that is his future baseline; the prevailing internet opinion seems to believe that. But I doubt it. I'm expecting Ayton to make a comeback, focus on defense and rebounding, and be the player that the Suns need now that Sarver and Williams are gone.

But as Shaq (and Jeremy

Oliver Miller used to say that too.
Yea, but he was talking about food

This is the (cautiously) optimistic approach most of us are taking...

I think I’m evaluating him on everything. Best and worst. The problem is you never know which one you’re going to get. We’re putting a lot on Ayton and he could tank our whole season if the bad version shows up.
I do agree it’s unlikely the 2023 playoffs Ayton is what shows up, but I would be disappointed if the 22-23 regular season version shows up too.
I’m not saying trade him for Nurkic(he’s not that good and is never healthy), but if we get Nurkic and say Caleb Martin? I’m going to consider that. Martin was really good for Miami in the playoffs last year.

I fluctuate on Ayton. Right now I'm pessimistic. I don't really buy the argument that Monty was shackling him and that he'll suddenly snap out of his funk and be awesome just because we have a new coach. And I don't think Ayton will like the new roster around him; with Book, KD, and Beal all in the lineup, and no CP3, I don't think Ayton is going to get very many looks on offense. So I think more likely he'll pout and become disengaged and we'll have to trade his ass. But we'll see.

You're wrong Mori. But we'll see.
Do you not remember how training camp started last year with Ayton's aloofness and how he let it be known that he hadn't spoken to Williams since the blowout loss to the Mavs?

I knew someone that went on a date with the Big O once. She said that he wouldn't quit sweating and she was pretty grossed out by him. Needless to say, she never went on a second date.

My sister knew someone that went on a date with the Big O once. He raped her. Needless to say, she never went on a second date.
Sorry if my comments about him come across as fat shaming, but I fucking hate the guy.

Wow. You're serious about the raping? Apparently, In2s acquaintance was saved by his sweating.

I lean more toward the 'bone side. Effort was Ayton's biggest issue last season and a lot of that probably had to do with the contract stuff and Monty (apparently) being at least OK with shopping him around for a replacement. I think it's a pretty lame excuse to selfishly sell out your teammates because of it, but whatever, that should be water under the bridge with a new head coach and owner. Nothing to be gained from lamenting over it now.
I think we'll see his effort be much more consistent this season, but I don't expect we'll see any tangible skill development on the offensive end. He'll still favor jump shots over attacking the rim and be slow to read the defense to make a play for himself or teammates. However, I wouldn't be surprised if his defensive numbers go up a tick under Vogel and a more well rounded roster. I'm expecting him to be a superstar role player and that should be enough if the rest of the team is healthy.

BTW, it wasn’t just Miller. The rape occurred at a party, and while she was upstairs being raped by Miller, Barkley was on the stairs telling everybody that what happened at the party stayed at the party and anybody who talked about it was dead. The main reason I’m no fan of Barkley.
Cedric Ceballos was also present at the party, but with no reports of horrible behavior. He’s guilty only of hanging around with shitty people.
