You could do it straight up if it is part of the Dame to Miami trade

If Gambo wasn't saying this crap, I'd just chalk it up to total nonsense. Are you kidding me that we're finally going to trade him for a deal nobody likes?

Which would be absolutely a horrible deal for us.

I wouldn’t say horrible, but ya it’s not good. Unless we have something else cooking with the luxury tax savings we’d get.

There would literelly be no way of doing anything else. We would be done.

Honestly, that's the only thing that would make sense (Ishbia cost-cutting move). Otherwise, why wouldn't you at least tell Portland to wait a couple months and see how things go with Ayton, if it was a separate trade?

That’s not true, we’d have trade exceptions and new access to the TPMLE, which you can acquire a player via trade into. I don’t think there’s any players worth signing left, but I’m not certain.

Ya it’s definitely connected. The way I see it is Portland wants to dump Nurk on whoever takes Dame. We are jumping in willing to take Nurk for Ayton if the team that gets Dame makes it worth our while.

Gambo doing his part to get us to 200 pages…. Can’t stand that hack.

At this point I think if you gave me even odds on who’s on the suns between Ayton/Nurkic, I’d take Nurkic. I think it’s happening. Just a matter of what else(if anything) is coming. Something better be coming. I’m hoping for Caleb Martin.

As far as I'm concerned, Ishbia's entitled to a little payroll slashing after OK'ing the KD and Beal trades. He's paying $130mil between Beal, Book and KD this year and all 3 are making $50mil each next year. But I don't necessarily think this is about cutting corners. It's about value and DA may not be worth the extra money paid if Nurk is coming back at $10mil less/year and giving you a double double with solid defense on the in the interior. It's not a straight salary dump and if we're being honest, even at his best DA wasn't exactly a DPOY candidate. Our title chances should rest more on Beal, Book and KD than DA's defense anyway. Nurk is fine so long as he's healthy, which would be the biggest risk in the deal.

If you made a comparison on skills:

Screener goes to Nurkic
Short roll playmaker goes to Nurkic
Pick n Pop man goes to Nurkic

Finisher goes to Ayton
Defender in space goes to Ayton
Health goes to Ayton

Cost goes to Nurkic
Upside goes to Ayton

Post defense and rebounding are close to a wash for me.

That says Nurkic is slightly better as a post defender and rebounder

Not only are you guys underestimating Ayton’s future, but you are overestimating Nurkic’s future. He is in decline, and will likely continue (perhaps rapidly, depending on health) to decline.

I’m just stating the present. I don’t think anyone disagrees that Ayton has a more promising future. Just that right now, this season, Nurkic might do some things better than Ayton

When Nurkic has to defend in the post, maybe he's better than Ayton. But if you're playing against Nurkic, he's easy to scheme of the floor. Pull him up top with a screen and it's a 5-on-4 every time.

And like JG said. He's old and broken and he's not getting more mobile.
