They could also do some sort of imbalance with cross conference games...though that gets tricky to make it fair, but for instance, instead of doing home and home with Miami, you play two games in Miami and then say Orlando plays two games in Phoenix. Or something like that.

Tomorrow is the deadline for the NBA and players to agree on modifications to the collective bargaining agreement. I think that means we will know final numbers on salary cap, etc, and final dates on the start of next season.

Important to note, the players agreed to the 72 game, Dec 22 start date for the season. Sounds like salary cap will remain the same. Players will put a higher amount into escrow over next couple seasons to spread out the losses. All that financial stuff still needs to be worked out though. Should finalize shortly before the draft.

I read that they are discussing a minimum salary cap / luxury tax threshold increase of 2%. So even if the league is losing $, the cap would increase a little. As you say, there are still financial things to work out. But now that the start date is set, they have better #s to work on.

As I understand it:

Nov 18 -> Draft
Nov 19 or 20 -> Free Agency
Dec 1 -> Training Camp

An interesting thing to note, if you listened to the Simmons/Russilo podcast...I believe the same one russilo said Booker wants out. Simmons thinks the nba will expand and the buy in fees for two teams will make up the 4 billion dollars the nba is expected to lose through all of this.

Man, the draft, FA, training camp, and the season are going to be here really soon. It's nuts. I love it as a fan, but I hope the players and teams are able to meet such an ambitious deadline. And I hope the rapid start doesn't lead to more injuries for players.

I'd rather have quality over quantity but I get it. And if it resets the calendar and gets things back on track for 21-22, then might as well just do it. But I feel like this will be a choppy season/schedule, a lot of guys taking off games early on and managing minutes. Rooks' heads will be spinning and a lot will prob burn out and really hit a wall.

That said, it could work out great for us. I'm hopeful that, short of a no-brainer deal we can't afford not to make, we'll keep the team mostly in tact. We'll have continuity with our core and have the young legs to take advantage of a more compressed schedule. No new head coach, no new system, no major FA losses, no key players coming back or missing the start with major injuries (knock on wood). The Grizz won't have JJJ, Clips have a new coach and didn't end the season well, LeBron and AD will miss time, Rockets and Thunder have new coaches and some roster questions to answer. We just gotta start off like we finished in Orlando.

The Suns sent out an email to season ticket holders today and just said "we will have more info in two weeks" about what it will look like here.

We'll see which way it goes with OKC but can't imagine they're not looking at rebuild/reload with younger players and picks.

Agreed. Curious if they go full rebuild and try and get cheaper/younger guys for Adams or maybe even Schroeder. They are the only guys not on rookie/minimum deals other than CP3. But both of those guys end this coming season. If they are rebuilding, I am doubting they want to stay (besides the fact it is OKC). Time to get something for them.

right. Wonder if they could attract a big FA if they let Adams and Dennis play it out next year. They would basically have ALL the cap space (but would have a couple guys ready for extensions--and maybe Oubre expiring )

Makes some sense for Atlanta, probably pushes them into the running for the 8 seed, but seems like a very shortsighted move. Jrue is a FA after this year and has spent most his career on rebuilding teams, can’t imagine he’d stay in Atlanta unless they really over perform. So you give up the 6th pick for 1 playoff run? I wouldn’t do it.

Brooklyn just seems like the place for Jrue. He’s perfect next to KD/Kyrie.
