So... Family Over Everything is a group of people who... aren't in the same family? And don't care about how their behavior affects others?

I'll just think of it as "That Morris Thing".

This article about Chandler/Len situation starts with a cap breakdown. We're about $11M from the cap floor which... is not calculated until the end of the season. Look for a very active trade deadline from the Suns if we're truly done signing people this Summer (and I hope we are.)
Great article.

I agree with his take on Archie and Knight. We don't have to trade them ASAP, but they both may be unhappy, so look for deals that get us something back.

I sort of agree with his take on the center position. He assumes Len will turn into a good center. I hope so. But I'm not thrilled with 18 million per year for a guy who gives you 20 minutes int he regular season and 10 in the post season. I hope Len is better than that.

And I'm just going to post this here to help keep Informer's blood pressure up:
The Suns need to spend the next three years finding out just how good Bender, Chriss and Booker really are.

Nothing has to be done, but it would be the course of wisdom to trade them ASAP.

I think the Suns have mismanaged both Archie and Len. Ugh.

What would you have done differently with Len?

Not brought in Tyson Chandler. Not yo-yo him back and forth from the starting lineup. Not played him at PF. Given him tons of touches.

Got it. Was wondering if you meant something else in his development.

What could we have done differently with Archie? I really didn't follow as closely as I should have in Archie's first couple of years.

I assume he means not putting him in a position where he is yanked around 2-4 minutes at a time. If you are going to develop a really young guard that can't shoot, he should be on the court with other shooters and you need to give him some room to make mistakes.

From a day one we've been sold this crap about his lottery/star potential, but they haven't given him the court time. Then we hear about his value around the league, but he hasn't been moved. Now hear we are, as he goes into the final year of his contract, just about nothing has been accomplished.

Agreed. That's my point about having too many players who need time. That's half of why I hate that we picked up Knight. You don't draft guys then sign established players to take their minutes.

We seem to be doing better about it this year, but I would still like to drop someone from our guard rotation.

Not sure where to put this, so I'm reviving an old thread.

I've been wondering how fair I am to expect McD to find an all-star or real impact player at the #4 pick in this draft. I get that the #1 pick is the best place to get a HOF player, but I can think of all of these really good players who slipped a bit and were taken later. But how common is that really? So I did a quick basketball reference search to see how many Very Good players were taken at 4 or later in the past. What is the chance one was available this year?

TL;DNR - 2/3rds of drafts have star available at #4.

My Search:
- 1980-2009 (We don't know enough about younger guys yet IMO)
- ws/48 >= .150 (This should get excellent impact players, but not average starters.)
- minimum 400 games played (eliminates flash in the pan type guys)
- picked #4 or later

Out of 30 seasons
- 11 had no impact player taken after #3.
- 38 total impact players were taken. (26 at #8 or later) (20 taken 1-3)
- 19 impact players were taken 4-10.

So, about 1/3rd of the time, there just isn't a star at this part of the draft. I think a lot of people feel that this is one of those years. As good as the last 2 drafts have seemed, it's easy to think this is a down year.

When there is a star to take, he isn't usually there after the 10th pick. Some people love the "value" of late picks, but they don't often pan out.

Complaint: career ws/48 >= .150 is a VERY debatable metric to use. But it's the best one I could do easily.

1/3 is a very high number.
