Guys, maybe there is a reason there aren't a lot of teams interested in Ayton at/near max money...
What could that be?
Part of it is the shitty teams in the league already used their cap space, and another reason is that only the true alphas/difference makers at the center position are getting maxes. Also, there are a ton of centers that are at the 20M or less level that can give you similar production as a #3 or #4.
It was rhetorical. Lol.

Indy is the one team that doesn’t have a ton of motivation to give us much. They don’t need our help to sign him. And Turner and a future 1st isn’t horrendous. Turner is still a good quality starting center.
I really want TJ McConnell back in the deal.
Wally_West wrote: ↑Thu Jul 07, 2022 8:20 am
Gambo keeps insisting we don’t want Turner tho, which seems weird. If it’s Turner and a 1st and maybe a couple second round picks.
It may be a character thing. He has also said the same thing about John Collins, which, again, is probably a character thing. I really like the talent that John Collins has, but he has $100 million owed to him, a PED suspension, and the Hawks have been advertising for awhile that he has been available and they still don't have any takers. So when I see posters talk about trading for him, I'm not sure that is a great idea.
Split T wrote: ↑Thu Jul 07, 2022 8:23 am
Maybe we really want to prove we don’t need to spend any money at all on a C. I guess you could do Hield and a pick.
I like Hield too, but he was upset in Sacramento about coming off of the bench. Do we want that here?

Ya true, maybe he’d be more open to it with Booker on the roster…or you just use him as a piece for KD

I hope Toronto decides they want Ayton and give us OG for him, but that doesn’t seem likely at this point.
So if we can get OG and filler/picks for him AND you can then deal with Brooklyn for either Mikal/OG/picks/filler or Mikal/Cam/picks/filler, which one do you do?
Mikal is Mikal. DPOY runner up.
OG can do things with the ball nobody else outside of CP3/Book can do. But you are getting back Durant...
I’d definitely swing the KD trade still and if my choice is keeping Cam or OG, I keep OG. He’s the better player and defense at that point is gonna be more important.
I meant to type Mikal/Cam in that second one. If you had to choose between keeping Mikal or OG (and we have Cam either way) which do you do?

Gotcha, I’d keep Mikal. I do think OG gives us a better option as a small ball 5, but they’re close enough as players that it’d be no question I’d keep the sentimental pick and keep Mikal. But chemistry and continuity would favor Mikal too.

I’d just send him to Indy for Turner and a future asset at this point. If Brooklyn has made it known they don’t want Ayton, get what you can for him and move on.
Not attacking you for posting the idea, but, that is an absolutely horrendous return for DeAndre Ayton.

CP-Book-Mikal-KD-Turner is a great starting lineup.
Are you
trying to jinx us? I'm not comfortable assuming we're getting KD.

If they can swing KD and still somehow keep Ayton, I believe that is the best case scenario. Ayton is still gonna be 3rd fiddle but at least he'll be 3rd fiddle on a legit championship contender.
I wouldn't be mad at that!

Sure, that’s why we still have some leverage, but a team like Toronto can’t even sign him to an offer sheet. With Indy, they’d be signing him as a free agent and giving us a little something to not match the offer. With a team like Toronto, your can’t even look at it like a free agent signing at all. It’s 100% a trade at that point.
If Indy doesn’t like the deal, they can just sign an offer sheet. If Toronto doesn’t like it, they have to walk away. They have no other option.

I don't see exactly what assets we plan to give Brooklyn for KD at this point. They don't want Ayton (or so they are rumored to be saying). We don't want to give them Mikal. Doesn't that just about kill any deal? Why would they trade KD for, what, Cam Johnson and Jae Crowder? It seems like the only way to make things work would be to find a 3rd team with an asset Brooklyn wants. The Jazz scenario where they sent Mitchell to BKN and we send Ayton to Utah makes some sense to me. But does Utah want that? Does that make their team better? Does it set them up to tank? Isn't the top draft prospect a center, redundant with Ayton? Why would Utah want to help a conference rival (Phoenix) become a superteam?
I'm kind of getting the sense that this deal is dying on the vine. My guess is that this unblocks by KD becoming willing to go to other teams, like maybe Miami or Toronto. They have better assets to package into a trade that BKN might actually want to accept.
I wish Jones and company would just move on and focus on executing a solid sign and trade Ayton deal.
No interest in keeping him?

I finally read some of the Ayton video gaming quotes and I have no words. (Well, I have a few.)
Ayton typically wakes up around 6 a.m. after only getting about two hours of sleep.
Typically gets two hours of sleep?! Are you f'n kidding me? No wonder he's so inconsistent!
But then, every day, he'll settle down for several hours -- at least four or five -- to play NBA 2K. This is how Ayton reached Legend status, an achievement that occurs by reaching Level 40 for four seasons in the game. Ayton believes he's the only NBA player to become a Legend.
I wish he had that goal in the real life NBA. If he dedicated that kind of time to it, he could.

It would make me want to pay him. Imagine how dominant he'll be once he starts getting more than 2 hours of sleep.
Seriously, though, he's 23 years old. I'm sure he'll mature and realize soon that he needs more sleep.

I got a good laugh out of that one, Jeremy.
If the Suns weren't aware of this before, they really need to get on him and express how important it is to everything in life to get a good night's sleep. I'm serious.

I feel like today's going to be a day of bad news. Probably Indy signs Ayton to an offer sheet, and the Suns announce they aren't going to match it. Suns lose him for absolutely nothing. I am already prepared to lower my expectations.

I just came here to post that that is exactly what is going to happen. And the KD trade talks give them an excuse: “We let him go because we expect to get KD. And we don’t want to pay the luxury taxes for both of them.”
It will be the most disgusting day in Suns history.

Who peed in your Cheerios? Isn't that the definition of stupidity if you let your first #1 overall pick ever walk for nothing? That would answer the "Is Sarver cheap?" question without a doubt if it were to happen. Plus, Jeremy would have a field day.
