I was pissed about taking Ayton over Doncic until the Suns made the Finals and then followed it up by trading for KD and Beal. It'll forever be the wrong pick, but they found another path that's been more successful and looks more promising in the near future. I'd still be pissed if they were a middling team struggling to add other players on Booker's level and make the playoffs every year.

Who hires Igor as head coach but then doesn’t draft Doncic?
It's been the craziest series of head coach hires with regard to Ayton.

When they hired Doncic's national team head coach, I was so scared they were going to draft Luka that I was actually hoping we would get the #2 pick in the lottery, and that Luka would go #1 so we would have to pick Ayton at #2. I wonder if that had happened, how people would have felt about Ayton and what kind of pressure he would have had?

But why hire someone who doesn't even know how to use Ayton if you're drafting Ayton? And then after his first year, they hire a head coach who was criticized for his development/usage of Anthony Davis. Then, they finally hire the perfect head coach for Ayton, who wants to keep him, and then they end up trading him away before he can ever play a game for him.

Incredible.
Hiring Monty was one of the best and most impactful moves the franchise has made in the last 15 years. You may have started as a Suns fan, but it starting to look like your Ayton fandom blew right past that.

Despite the delusions, the Suns were never going to hire a head coach who fit to build a team “around” DA. That player was Book. Then Book and CP3. Now Book and KD and Beal. DA isn’t worthy of that designation. It would be like Miami targeting a coach who could specifically utilize Duncan Robinson effectively.

Then why draft him? You have to admit there was a dysfunctional disconnect there. If you're going to take him #1 overall you sure as hell better have a coaching staff in place to utilize and develop him effectively. Especially with a big man--you can't just throw him out there and expect him to be fully developed day one, or even year one.

Are you also going to say that drafting Ayton #1 overall "was one of the best and most impactful moves the franchise has made in the last 15 years" because he helped us get to the Finals?

P.S. Can we stop with the fandom insults? It's getting old.

It’s not a fandom insult. You’re lamenting the hire because of the supposed impact it had on one player (as if that player is blameless) and ignoring the massive success it had on the organization as a whole.

No where have you shown to be more of a Suns fan than you are an Ayton fan. Sorry bud. You have always cared more about Aytons usage than you have the Suns results and always tried to correlate the Suns failures to anyone but Aytons lack of productivity.

That's insane.

So if you ignore the fact that Ayton helped us get to the Finals and say that we should not have picked him #1, that means that you are not a Suns fan?

How do you know that the coach we could have hired instead of Monty would not have led us to a championship instead of only a conference championship?

I'm saying that if you're going to draft Ayton #1, you should hire a coach who is best suited to developing him into a #1 or #2 next to Booker. If that had happened, we may have won multiple championships.

I don't know why you insist on making it player vs. organization.

Says the guy that has made Ayton the focal point of 80% of his posts in this thread or any others around here. Yeah, you're a Suns fan. But you're also a massive Ayton homer. Is the sky blue? Is water wet? Is Jeremy a massive Ayton fan?

Because you'll never admit that it was his fault it didn't work in Phoenix. You can just cling to the anger you feel towards the deal because you believe the Suns didn't do what you thought they should do in regards to Ayton. So you'll just be mad and think they made the team worse, when in most of reality they went and added depth and a player who was willing to buy into his role. This will forever be on Ayton, no matter how much you want it to be otherwise.

Everyone here wanted Ayton to succeed, but he refused to be a star in his role, he wanted to be the man and it ruined everything here for him. Period.

You're missing my point. If I were more of an Ayton fan than a Suns fan, I would be ecstatic that he is no longer on the Suns. Especially if I thought it was the Suns' fault he didn't reach his potential.

Also: why on earth would I want him stuck behind three superstars in Phoenix?

Also: I would have been pissed about the Beal trade instead of celebrating it.
