I agree. If the Suns traded an unprotected pick, that would be the year that the pick wins the lottery, guaranteed.
We did trade an unprotected pick, for Knight, and it only came in #3 in the lottery.

That pick hasn't transferred yet. Philly/Boston get it next year.

The terribleness of the Majerle for Hot Rod trade is way over-stated. Majerle had already peaked and wasn't nearly as durable after the Suns traded him. Sure, if he had played the same as he did here after they traded him it would have been a disaster, but he didn't because his body started breaking down.

And apparently they forgot the DJ for Rick Robey trade (worst Suns trade ever, easily) and the Paul Silas for Charlie Scott trade.

Paul Silas became Charlie Scott became Paul Westphal, so that wasn't so bad — as long as you stop following the chain before Rick Robey.

They also only gave passing mention to the Charlie Scott/Paul Westphal and Gary Gregor/Paul Silas trades. Also, no mention to Ron Lee & Marty Byrnes for Truck Robinson and ignored the Neal Walk/Curtis Perry & Dennis Awtrey trade and the John Shumate/Gar Heard trade. I guess they totally forgot that 1976 NBA Finals team.....

The (other) unbelievable thing about the DJ for Robey trade is that we even threw in a 1st round pick!

But John MacLeod wanted him traded. Of course it might have just been easier to keep Westphal or DJ and find a new coach....

Might be nit picking a bit, but there #2 worst trade isn't exactly accurate. They combined two trades into one and said we traded the Laker pick and IT for Brandon Knight. They were two separate trades, although both should probably be on the list. The Laker pick was traded with Tyler Ennis and Miles Plumlee for Brandon Knight. In a separate deal, we traded IT to Boston for a first round pick. A pick we used to move up and select Chriss.

In hindsight, it's hard to see why we did either trade. Did we really need to move dragic and IT? Why wouldn't moving just dragic solve the problem?

They don't even mention Igoudala in the #7 worst. It was well known that they would have drafted Igoudala instead of Deng with the 7th pick that year had they kept it.
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

Either of those guys would have been a very good fit for our team.

I don't think we ever really wanted IT. It was asset acquisition. We signed him to a great deal and knew, at the very least, Boston would have interest.

I am not that upset about trading IT. He wasn't going to turn into the Boston IT here. So we probably weren't going to get much more for him. I am more bothered by how awful that entire year was from a trade/roster move standpoint. Just downright awful.

Completely agreed, wonder how much of it turned into learned lessons, or if we are still vulnerable to outsmart ourselves looking for the next great asset, or bargaining high ground.

I think he absolutely could've been the Boston IT here. He just needed a chance to be given the ball and told to play his game.
