We all felt betrayed by Ayton, tbph.

Not at all strange that he disappeared in his first game against real high level competition in almost exactly 5 months.

Yea I saw more than a couple posts about how DA is being misused/underutilized because Billups is a bad coach or too many Grant ISOs. The more things change...

I feel bad for DA, he’s a good dude. He does try hard in the regular sense. But the NBA is not a regular place. From what we know about his upbringing it makes sense that this is how it is.

Doesn’t seem like he had the hard knocks parenting from an early age needed for surviving in this atmosphere. Hopefully he puts it together in the end. But we didn’t have time to wait around for it with Book around. Had their ages been reversed it might have worked. If he does ever put it all together it might take another 2-3 years, which lines up better with Scoot.

More random fan comments?

What happened to y’all’s boy Piano9717 on Reddit? Y’all aren’t going to post what that same fan with the critical comments from the last game said about this game? I thought he was the most credible source that could possibly be found on the interwebs?

Piano9717 from last night:
Piano9717 wrote: Ayton was much better in the short roll today. He did a much better job being patient and finding the open guy (kicked it out multiple times to an open shooter on the wing behind him which is the hardest pass for a big in the short roll to make) instead of forcing up shots over two defenders. He also was much more decisive attacking open space going towards the rim which is what you need when you attack the short roll. I also liked that he kicked the ball out to Ant twice when he got doubled on postups – that’s great to see.

[…]

The negatives:

[…]

We’re rebuilding anyways, and the entire point of the trade was to see if Ayton had some other level in his game that Phoenix just didn’t unlock because they couldn’t afford to throw away games developing Ayton when they were trying to win now with Booker and CP3. Why not throw him the ball a few times a game and see what he does with it? Realistically, Ayton is never going to be worth that max contract if he is only a play-finisher (catching lobs with the occasional midrange shot off a pick-and-pop) who plays above-average but not spectacular defense. Why not just see what other sorts of things he can do with the ball? Not like we are going to be winning too many games anyways.

I guess Piano dude is only credible when he agrees with the narrative?

My guess is someone just saw that on Twitter…none of us are going on Blazers Reddit to find thoughts on Ayton. We don’t care enough. We also just watched the game with our own eyes, we don’t need to know what Blazers fans thought.

I didn’t think Ayton was bad…just kinda invisible. Portland ignored him like we often did. Him dribbling and attacking the rim off the short roll was positive.

I think we’re mostly just excited about what Nurkic did. He was quite good in this game and more than outplaying Ayton in this game, he did what we need from him. Now if we can just get him to stay healthy and do this every game.

Well obviously those who keep posting their comments on Twitter are doing exactly that.

What? 2-3 good defensive possessions while being a traffic cone the rest of the time? The dude can't run, jump, or move laterally. Three of the most important things needed when playing basketball.

I was told that what we needed from our center this year was to be Vogel's defensive anchor.

I wouldn't count on either of those happening.

You can’t possibly watch that game and think what Ayton provided was better for us. And if you do we are done talking, there’s nothing to be gained from it. Sorry your favorite player got traded. You should try and get over it. I won’t be coming back to this thread

All hail the all-knowing Piano9717!

Actually, I have no problem with what he said. I agree with him that Portland can afford to be patient with him since they're not in win now mode. His passive style just didn't fit with our win-now, killer basketball players. Let's just call it a win-win and move on. (Sheah, right.)

But were we in win-now mode his first two years?

Did you watch the game with shit smeared on your glasses Jeremy? I don't care what some optimistic dude on Reddit said. Ayton played like ass last night. Nurkic played far better. Can you even try to be objective for once and stop being so subjective?
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton
