It took me a bit to figure it out, but as long as rules haven’t changed, I believe you can combine players in a sign and trade. It doesn’t seem to have happened much at all, but it has happened. In 2000, Detroit signed and traded Grant Hill for Ben Wallace and Chucky Atkins. Both Wallace and Atkins were signed and traded as well.
This does make it possible that the suns could make sign and trades work with teams over the salary cap. It might be a little tricky, but it’s doable and does make me feel like it’s possible to move Ayton this summer and get decent value.

There's also a chance a team opens up enough cap space during the draft to offer Ayton outright when free agency opens.

Some scenarios have been mentioned on here - Indy, Charlotte, Spurs, Detroit...Some aren't terrible and I like a lot of the players coming back, just not sure they make us better.

The only trade I kind of like in that article is the Atlanta one for Clint Capela and Bogdan Bogdanovic. Most of the others made me gag a little. ATL at least has a lot of assets that we could acquire in return for DA.

It doesn’t work with the cba though…we’d have to include more salary as Ayton would only count as 15 million

Ouch

There is nothing confirmed about the rumors and whispers of Ayton/Williams getting into it on the bench, where Ayton reportedly refused to enter the game after the Suns fell into a large deficit.

We've only been talking about that for the better part of the past week. Where've you been 'dack?

Not to cry over spilled grapes but I'm just curious. Are we pretty sure it was McDonough that chose Ayton over Doncic? I remember him being giddy when we nabbed the #1 overall pick and I thought at the time it was because he was all about Ayton.

We'll never know because no one will admit to that error now.

If McD wanted Doncic he would’ve let us know by now. The fact that he hasn’t tells me Ayton was his guy. Also the way he talked about Ayton before the draft made it clear we knew we were taking him long before draft day.
I will say that Igor kinda made it clear he would’ve picked Luka.

I generally avoid this place after every season ends because it turns into one trade scenario after another and everybody assigning blame and that bores the crap out of me. I just saw that article somewhere and shared it. I am interested in finding out what transpired before or during game seven that led to the total meltdown and aren’t interested at all in reading the endless trade scenarios.

Well get ready for some trade scenarios cuz I’ve got some haha:
So I listened to the timeline pod and with some other research, I’ve determined we can actually sign and trade Ayton for just about anyone we want(at least contract wise) in the nba. It gets tricky because you have to add contracts on both sides, but it’s really not that difficult.
For instance:
Ayton/Saric/Craig for KAT/Bolmaro works money wise. So does that same package for Siakam/Banton/Brooks.
So where we can’t trade is teams above the tax apron, so the Nets, Warriors, Nuggets, Bucks, and Clippers are not allowed to acquire a player via sign and trade, so any of their players are out. Jazz, Mavericks, Celtics, and 76ers are close enough that it would be very hard to trade with them and not push them above the tax apron, so they are probably out too. Though they could probably make some option decisions that make it possible.
Lakers are also close, but they do have about a 6 million dollar cushion and could maybe make it? Though they’d essentially be stuck only adding vet mins to fill out their roster, so that would get ugly, but something like Ayton, Shamet, Payne, Cam J, and Craig for LeBron and Nunn would technically work.
Also one of the easiest trades to make would be Ayton/Saric/Craig for Beal.
We could also technically get Lillard. Not that that’s likely.
Honestly none of these are likely, but it’s fun to think about.

That makes sense to me. I sure would like to know which way Sarver and Jones were leaning. THAT we’ll probably never know. Sarver being a UofA graduate I’d have to believe he wanted Ayton as well.

Bill Simmons and Ryen Russillo had a pretty lengthy discussion about Ayton trades on Simmons' latest podcast.
Nothing totally outside of the box besides a ridiculous 3-team trade involving the Lakers and Charlotte.
Simmons did bring up my exact Ayton & Payne for Rozier and #13 with the intention of drafting Mark Williams trade. As JeremyG pointed out, that doesn't work because free agency is before the draft, but I felt like I became eligible to start an NBA podcast after hearing them bounce around the idea.

This just proves my theory that Bill Simmons reads this site!

I've seen rumors that say that the Warriors are going to make a trade for Gobert. It probably helps them a little, and definitely in the regular season, but they have to be pleased with Looney's production this season and playoffs.
A trade that I thought of that they would do for Gobert was Wiggins, Wiseman, and Moody for Gobert. If the Suns are serious about trading Ayton, before this series, I considered that trade for him, and I know that Wiseman has only played 36 games over his first 2 seasons.

They’d have to sign Ayton first and make the trade after December 15th, GS isn’t allowed to acquire players via sign and trade

Good chance Charlotte just drafts Williams though and then you can do it later

Yeah, and their history says that they don't like to make in season trades, so it's probably not even on the table in discussions.
