Kellan Olson speculated that the Spurs could be a suitor for Ayton based on Jake Fischer's report that the Spurs were going to look for a starting center to protect Wembanyama.
Olson mentions Keldon Johnson, but I am pretty sure San Antonio would never part with Johnson or Vassell. One name I would love to see come our would be Charles Bassey.

Maybe, just maybe our new owner is all about spending and deep pockets in order to get us that championship... Just nuts compared to what we came from.
The money isn't the issue; we don't have much of a team now, and trading for Beal would only make the problem worse. We'd just be collecting stars. I guess Ishbia really does look up to Joe Tsai.
You're in good company.

Why would the Spurs turn to one of the softest centers in the league to protect Wembanyama? That doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense.

It's basically what they did with Duncan. The D-Rob that played with Duncan was a shell of his former self.

Ayton doesn't seem to fancy himself a C either though.

I have a ton of skepticism about Beal, but his no trade clause is a tremendous piece of leverage for the team acquiring him. If Ishbones could somehow pull off a Booker/KD/Beal/Ayton core going into the next season, they'd be hefty favorites to come out of the West.
They'd be even wiser to move off of Ayton's contract in that situation, but I doubt it would be worthwhile now. It could be better to bite the bullet and make that move when the iron is hot.

If you bring in Beal, that's all the more reason to move Ayton for whatever you can get. He will never see the ball on offense playing next to that trio, and you're just not going to get the rebounding and defense you need to justify carrying him on the roster at his salary.

That's right. I think it's far more likely Ayton would be moved for "spare parts" in a scenario where they acquired Beal.
But Ishbia is a wildcard. Are we sure he wouldn't be willing to pay for that roster?

Bradley Beal for Chris Paul and Landry Shamet would be the most lopsided trade in the history of the NBA.

Right. Washington can do much better, but Beal holds a lot of power. End of the day, I think he'd rathe be in Miami.
